one way to get some idea on whats running (in background maybe):
--> goto Processes tab (Task Manager)
--> click on the CPU (maybe twice) column to sort the processes by CPU usage (ascending or descending)
(the task/processes list would now start fluctuating in based on CPU usage, BUT there should be few tasks that would always be on the top of the list since they are the culprits hogging your CPU time/resources)
--> look at the line(s) where the CPU usage is high, then look at the corresponding process name under Image Name column
--> then goto Windows Explorer, use the search files/folder function and type in the process name that you just read off from the process list in the Task Manager
--> make sure you set the search location to "Local Hard Drives C; .........", rather than some folder
--> if search is successful. you should see the filename in the search results.
--> First off....... the folder path should give you an idea on what that file/process is, else,
--> Next.........if the file is an EXE or DLL.... right click on the filename ...goto Properties.....then goto VERSION tab.....
--> various fields under Version Information should give you some idea on what that file/process is , thats taking up your CPU resources.
this is a long step by step description of a short method.......
