Coworker's car insurance requested her odometer reading

She calls me over and shows me two numbers she wrote down saying her insurance company was requesting her odometer reading but she didn't know which number was for the odometer. I quickly glanced over the 2 numbers. First one was ~120k and the other was ~8k (can't remember exact number). I told her it was the first number. She says OK but what does that number mean. I explained that it's the total number of miles the car has been driven. She then says she got the second number from the dail right below the first number and ask what that was. At this point I started thinking she was just pulling my chains but after I explained the trip meter she asked me how to read out the odometer number so she'll know how to say it to the insurance agent.:QWhoa.

This doesnt surprise me. Ive known alot of people that neither know nor care what their odometer reading was.

Makes selling used cars easy I guess.

oh, goodness factor

wow, goodness factor of over 150,000!

I don't know if it's my losing faith in humanity or a real phenomenon, but it seems that the longer we go the less people want to know about the function of their devices.

50,000 more and it will evolve 🙂

are you sure the last digit she wrote wasn't the column that gives fractions of a mile? 😀

I'm sure it was for the trip odometer. Those usually only go up to 999. The 120k was probably right. I don't think total mileage usually has a 10ths digit.

It amazes me people like this remember to breathe. She couldn't use common sense to figure out "Jeez, 8000 miles sounds a little low, I probably drive more than that in a year. The higher number has to be the total vehicle mileage." THEN she can't figure out how to say "One-Hundred Twenty Thousand" aloud? Unreal.

It scares me that 80% of the population is most likely this stupid. They are everywhere.

unfortunately (or fortunately if they are driving), breathing does not require conscious effort. Otherwise we will cull most of the population, which is bad since it will be very hard to clean up. Especially because you ran out of dumb people.

LOL! Reminds me of my girl who got a symbol on her dashboard that looked like a tire and she didn't know what it meant.

me - "So what did your manual say that light meant?"
her - "umm, lemme see. It says 'low tire pressure', what doe that mean?"
me - "you have low tire pressure"
her - "but what does that REALLY mean and do I need to take it to the shop?"
me - *facepalm*

I've seen people rolling around on dead flat tires, and not long ago saw a newer car with in a parking lot with a tire that was just the beads. Not even the sidewalls were left. There were no signs of a tire near either.

My parents just had that light come on. They had no idea what it was. 🙁
