Well, he emailed back saying that he's going to tell our professor about our breakdown and ask to take an incomplete for the class and finish his paper later.
It worries me that he'll be badmouthing me to the professor, so when I turned in my assignment online, I sent a note saying "I'm handing this paper in without Dave's name as there was a conflict. I believe he expected me to do far more work than he expected of himself. When I completed the paper, I offered to add his name subject to our disclosure of individual contributions. He refused and is now writing his own paper." Seems concise enough.

Honestly, you are in the right here and I would take the initiative to see the professor to explain what happened. Your "friend" sounds like he could be vindictive and you need to preempt this by explaining your side of things right away.

I know it's more than you bargained for, but do it this way and save the headaches later.

Like I said, make time with the professor in his office hours... do it TODAY.

Oh, he is pissed right now. Accusing me of stabbing him in the back, etc. He's the one who left me hanging to complete a project the day before it's due.

Why a crybaby, tell him to go pound sand.
