Cowboys Sack Romo, Romo Sacks a Giant

Cowboys fan here. Sad to see that his career ended due to injuries and a freak situation where a 4th string back up QB became the #1 QB of the team. But happy to see him find an awesome fit for the next stage in his career.

Overall happy/excited for him. Would have been weird to see him play for another team (I suppose he still could technically) and I'm a huge fan of Dak as well, so all good things for the Cowboys.

I'm really sad to see Tony go, I loved watching him play over the years. I kept seeing rumors of him going to Denver and I was like no, please for the love of God no! I can't stand the freaking Broncos.
I guess he decided it was time to hang it up. Tony is a great guy and I wish him all the best with his new career. If it doesn't work out I'm sure Jerry would hire him as a QB coach in a heart beat.

I think you meant 4th rounder.

I think Romo will be a good analyst though. He has a good personality and obviously knows a shitload about football. He seems like a very likable guy overall.

Smart move to hang it up though. His body can't hang with the NFL anymore it's pretty obvious at this point.

Simms isn't necessarily being fired, but he won't be on the #1 NFL broadcast team for CBS. That seems to me something of a bold/premature move on CBS's part, but I guess Romo and Jim Nantz are buddies, so maybe they also expect some chemistry.

And God damn it... I didn't close that ESPN page and it loaded a video of Stephen A commenting on Romo. I can't even express in words how much I hate listening to that fucker.

I like Phil Simms so glad to hear he's not getting the boot. From all the headlines I figured he was gone.

Respect Romo greatly for what he accomplished on the field. Dude is a freaking warrior, he played with broken ribs and punctured lung for half a season. He's gotta be the second best undrafted QB ever after Kurt Warner.

Giants fan here and have to give Romo props. Great player just hampered by injuries. I don't mind either that he lost to the Giants in the playoffs on one of their epic runs to down the Patriots in the big game.

I don't like Phil Simms as an announcer and think Romo will probably give Eli more respect on the air. Wish him luck.

Wasn't he like the 3rd backup QB or something? After Romo was hurt, didn't the cowboys go through 2 other QBs before Dak?

9er fan obviously but always had respect for Romo. Tough ball player and his press conference after being injured really showed what a great team player and person he really is. Pretty much sealed the deal for me as a football fan in general. I just wished Fox picked him up and got rid of Aikman and Buck lol.

Sad to see Tony go, but he is getting away at the best possible time. He won't get a season of him being carried by his defense and just plain sucking. I'm glad he got a job too. He is nearly as American dream story as Tom Brady.

You're the Cowboys fan, why are you asking us? 😛

Teams might bring 4 QBs to training camp, but there's no such thing as a 3rd backup. When Dak Prescott was drafted, he was going to be the backup or the 3rd QB. (Some teams roll the dice with just 2 QBs on the 53 man roster.) When Romo got hurt, Prescott had to beat out just one other guy for the starting job. IIRC there was no other guy on the Boys roster that smelled like an NFL starter; they were just really lucky/happy that a franchise QB sprang up almost out of nowhere for them.

Having said that, his rookie campaign was so solid that a sophomore slump is almost a certainty.

I'm not even a Cowboys fan whatsoever lol.

The Cowboys also had Kellen Moore who was lost for the season, before Romo was injured. I'm not sure if Moore or Prescott was higher on the depth chart at the time (not a Cowboys fan). Google shows the 4th QB on the roster at the time was a 2015 UDFA named Showers.

Moving straight from the field to the studio isn't the easiest thing. I've seen a lot of people who needed experience before they were good at it. Too often they seemed uncomfortable, awkward and would occasionally make some bad verbal gaffes, even career ending.

Livelong Cowboys fan here. Glad to see Tony made a good decision. He was a warrior on the field, nothing but respect for the guy. Now he can stay involved in the game he loves and live a healthy life. Good for him.

Hoping the new "triplets" are as good this coming season as they were last season. I have faith!!!! Just get us a pass rush please!

I wish I could find that video of him trying to scramble from around the 5 yard line and getting tackled on the 1...

I was always sad to see his team fall apart in the playoffs. I never was a big Dallas fan, but still liked to watch him play because he always had multiple talented receivers that fought for the ball. I really like Romo...It'll be neat to see how he handles broadcasting, but I will miss Phil Simms on CBS. Hopefully someone else picks him up.

Simms is the ABSOLUTE WORST announcer. I have no idea how he stays employed. He adds nothing to the game and is consistently wrong in what he thinks is happening/has happened on the field.
Nance needs to stick to gymnastics and golf.

Simms never bothered me at all. Joe Buck is my biggest dislike among announcers. I've turned off games that I wanted to watch where he's announcing. And Al Michaels, who should have been forced to retire at least five or ten years ago. Painful to listen to these days.

Two guys I wish I could hear more of are Mike Mayock and Brian Billick.

Are you fucking kidding me? People hate on Buck/Aikman and it's unjustified.
Al Michaels is one of the best in teh business STILL to this day.

Simms is hoooooooooooooooooooooooooooooorible.
He's constantly WRONG and or ignorant of what is even going on.

I have no real issues with Aikman, although he's pretty boring. People can't stand Joe Buck for a reason.

I think Michaels has a drinking problem. Or maybe he's just becoming senile. His diction problems have been getting worse and worse every year and it bugs the hell out of me.
