I'm worried about here in Ontario. We already have an underfunded and overloaded health care system and now we have a premier who wants to privatize. 2 years ago he essentially froze nurse's and other health care workers' wages, capping them at 1% per year. So basically take an already overworked work force and fuck them over even more so they all quit. Then in a few years when we're all waiting years for operations or 10 hours in emergency he can say public healthcare can't keep up and his buddies roll in and privatize.

My sister is a nurse here in London, Ontario. She is working hard but not over-worked. That was last year.

I had my open heart surgery postponed 3 times in 2020 due to covid problems here including lockdowns. I had the surgery in October 2020.

Covid has caused all sorts of problems that governments are having trouble grappling with. None are doing a great job.

I will say this though: I would rather Premier Ford be in-charge here than Andrea Horvath and her NDP circus.

My county just reinstated a mask mandate for all indoor businesses. Our douchebag governor, the right honorable Douchebag Ducey, responded by telling people that the county mandate is illegal and that no one has to follow it. The state of Arizona routinely pulls this shit, overruling county level decisions and routinely loses when they take the counties to court. In the meantime, business owners will have to deal with dumbasses who refuse to wear masks because the Douchebag said they didn’t have to.

It's one of 6-7 states with more than 3,000 deaths per 1M population.
It's currently third just behind mississippi and alabama.

Mississippi managed to climb to #1 on the deaths per Capita rankings.

NJ/NY were at the top for a long time due to the initial outbreak, but had it fairly under control since.

MS and other Southern states, didn't see that as a cautionary tale, but a dare. How dumb, but unsurprising for the illiterate s-hole confederate states.

What's crazy about AZ is that they have all the benefits of dry warm climate, and UT is near the bottom of the list. That's truly special.

I wonder how many of these people have "talked themselves into this corner" and don't have the character or courage to admit that their decision may have been a bit hasty or foolish, vs. the shame of acknowledging they might be wrong.

There are those (mostly young) that can't be arsed to care about any of it; there are those that fear the vaccines will give them cancer or some other dread disease (never mind the actual disease killing people here and now); and those like the drummer in my band who wonders "do diseases mutate like this naturally" (meaning, some nefarious entity is doing it)....Yep, they do, it's not like science for this is not established for decades or anything....

People just don't want to take the effort or the pain of confronting reality, and don't want to accept that science is a fluent thing that can change as the factual information changes. They want instant simplistic "axis of evil" good vs bad answers to their problems. Covid is messy and new and somewhat unknown, so make up a bad guy. The media! Democrats! Illegal immigrants! Anthrax!

Well, let's hope that she's finally right about two things, for once in her life.

I think nearly all humans get to a point where they are the "last one standing" and no matter who they end up being "allied with" simply to maintain their stubbornness against all logic, will just do it.

This is why, to this day, I refuse to eat Mayo, Ketchup, and open a Facebook Account, for any reason. I will just not do those things. I think it is the same sort of thing with otherwise smart, rational people that get pushed to a point of intractable irrationality.

Nevertheless, they are always a stumbling block to progress, so such traits, if deleterious, will invariably just "disappear" under whatever major pressure that generation is facing, and we'll see that pretty starkly within about 2-3 more generations (so like, 2080ish-2100, if we're still around).

....and it's looking like viruses for this generation, folks!
