What a shallow interaction with friends. And once a year... WOW. And where did I question the number of "friends" you have that you felt it was necessary to tell us you have 'plenty'?

Let's go drink expensive cheap beer, buy a $15 hot dog made with unknown meat product, and scream for your favorite team of millionaires, who don't give a fuck about you, to run around hitting another team of millionaires you hate, and who also don't give a fuck about you.

What conversation could one possibly have at a concert, where ear protection is probably a wise choice, or chatting away annoying other patrons if the amps aren't pulling a 1,000 amps.

Meeting friends and having a conversation over a beer or a meal is social.
Man you sure sound like a fun guy.

So, I was watching ABC network news last night and they showed protesters on the street holding signs saying stuff like "My body my choice." I got furious and started shouting at my TV.

These nut-jobs rob the pro-choice on abortion people of their slogan and try to apply it to a world wide pandemic that's kicking our ass. HOW FUCKING STUPID CAN THEY BE? Don't they know that there already are vaccine mandates for many diseases, have been for a bloody century? They want the right to fuck things up for all of us by stuffing our hospitals with their dumb asses and making us all continue to have to marshal our resources via social distancing, mask wearing, getting the unstupid people vaccinated, paying for testing, subsidizing the housing challenged, the list is endless. Why don't they just all follow the lemmings over the cliff??? :eek:o_O

Oh good, the "you didn't find my joke funny so clearly you just didn't get it" response
What made you think MM was trying to be funny? I don't see the humor in all this. There's lots of irony to go around but I don't find it funny.

I think those were nurses/hospital workers protesting mandatory vaccination.

Just as reprehensible. People working in the medical community being so retrogressive. Honestly, I say just fire them. Call me hard hearted, I don't care. They should be given an ultimatum. #1: Stop spreading misinformation. #2: Get vaxxed or go home.

Nah, I agree with Fskimospy on this point. It's clear that the closure of schools has increased the disparity in academic performance between different social classes. Poorer parents are likely to have had less education themselves, so would be a in weaker position to home-school, they are likely to be under more stress and working longer hours, so less able to supervise children doing distance-learning, and they are likely to have less spacious living arrangements where children find it harder to get peace and quiet to study, and so on, before even getting into the availability of the necessary tech and even just books.

For selfish reasons though I've been annoyed at the schools re-opening, not least because it means when I've walked places (e.g. to hospital appointments) I regularly have to dodge through crowds of kids arriving or leaving local schools. Disease-ridden blighters, stay away from me!

I would agree with this.

I think some parts of the benefits of in person schooling is overblown, I would still say it's variable based on the kid, and based on the strength of the remote learning program.

Since schooling is highly localized, and there is much disparity in funding and talent of the educators, some students will suffer greatly, others may be minimally impacted. I know of a few who have actively benefited.

I think there opportunities for more high quality, well funded remote programs instead of the stop gaps we have, that could benefit/supplement a large number of schools nationally, but would require rethinking how we conduct education.

Their attitude make we wonder how they view other precautions to prevent the spread of disease and infections... stuff like washing their fucking hands between patients.

Years ago, my daughter had surgery. We were visiting her in the hosp, and someone came in to change her dressings or something. My daughter asked "have you washed your hands?" at which point they went to the sink and washed their hands.

I am. It just doesn't include spending hundreds of $$$ to go watch millions chase each other around, drink overpriced crap beer and eat a hot dog cooked hours ago, in an environment where a conversation between friends is not practical.

Support your millionaire heroes, and tell yourself that you are being social...

Your daughter has brains.

I have heard it's a real good idea to ask that question in a hospital. I have an appointment with my doctor on Oct. 12, haven't seen him since before the pandemic. I think I'll ask him that. He may have gloves on. I'll make a point of noticing when he comes into the examination room. While waiting in one of their exam rooms (HMO) a few years ago, possibly for my PCP, don't remember, I noticed a thing they had on the wall, illustrating how a medical professional properly washes their hands. I took a picture of it:

I am not a fan of any team of millionaires. Haven't watched a pro sports anything in probably 40 years.

I look at those that align themselves with a team, and obsess over their success/failure to be very similar to the trumpanzees... disturbing... there is more to life.

I suppose you're talking about car races. I refuse to watch those on TV even. In fact I fast forward through the news coverage of them.

Nope, yet I know countless people whose heroes spend Sunday... turn left... turn left... turn left... turn left... turn left... turn left... turn left... turn left... turn left... turn left... gas... tires...turn left... turn left... turn left... turn left... turn left... turn left...

The irony is it is very popular with the right wingnut gang, whose heroes spend the day turning left.

Years ago, when Earnhart crashed and died, a guy I know couldn't go to work for a couple of days because he was grieving. Today he probably has a MAGA hat.

Oh, I see sports in general. Well, I applaud you there too. My dad eventually came to the same view. I do find some inspiration in following sports, however. My daily endurance skating improved during the Olympics, I went into something of a slump after them for a couple weeks.

I don't go to the events in person. Too time consuming and expensive. Just some OTA TV, mainly on weekends. Saw 2 baseball games so far this year, they were amazing overtime games and "my team" won both in spectacular fashion (SF Giants). I watched San Francisco's football team (49ers) pluck defeat out of the jaws of victory last Sunday night and vowed to avoid them for the rest of the year! .... IOW, no TV! Following sports CAN be demoralizing!

OOOO00000ooooo I seem to have stepped on some football fans toes...
Honestly nothing to do with football, you just kind of shit on all professional sports and big time college sports, concerts, basically anything where people could gather in large numbers. Feel free to go yell at the kids to get off your lawn.

The one thing every party needs is the guy lecturing others about how their recreational choices are bad, lol.

I'm sure you think you are fun though!

So long as it doesn't hurt anyone else I could not possibly care less about what people do for fun. I mean why would you? If you don't like football games, don't go to them! I don't like NASCAR but if you do that's great.

Ted Kaczynski superfan? I kid.

Speaking of sporting events, it's a long time ago and now forgotten, but a football match in Milan was probably the original superspreader event:
