County Officials Attempt to Stop Home Bible Study

for you people bitching about inconvenience, where i live we have:


airband practice - every year. the house down the street does airband practice, so that includes nightly approx 15+ people who come over, doing things like setting up props, loud music, dance choreography, etc. all of this is done in their front driveway, and their house is at the middle of the street. so the cars that come over essentially take over the street parking on the street. this happens for about 2 months of the year. (all's not all bad. we do get to watch a bunch of high school age girls dancing around in skimpy attire all afternoon for 2 months...)

christmas lights - my neighborhood is consistently written up for its extravagant displays of christmas lighting. as such, we get several thousand cars coming through during the christmas season, to the point that it's near impossible to get out of my own driveway when i want to go somewhere.

quit bitching about 15 people once a week. if you're that intolerant, off yourself.

I'm pretty damn tolerant of what people do in the privacy of their own home, but when it spills out into the neighborhood it's everyone's business. Especially when it results in having so many damn cars parked around the house that apparently people can't leave without running into my mailbox.

Oh, and when did legality/illegality become the guideline for being a courteous neighbor? That kind of thinking is a big reason society is in the shitter today.

You could fit enough cars to hold 15 people in the guy's driveway. The video said they park in the driveway, and there is some spillover into the street. We don't know how much, but he seemed to have a good sized driveway. If the 15 people includes children, then there's probably more than 2 people per car.

From the satellite imagery on Google Maps, it looks like would be able to fit at most 4 cars (including his own) in the driveway.

I suspect that someone is complaining because they don't like Christians. Someones car accidentally getting hit has nothing to do with this. That could happen in ANY situation and once in 5 years is hardly a big deal. If this is really about traffic than why the hell make them get a permit, that doesn't relieve traffic, that just gives the county more money whilst the neighbors still have to deal with traffic. At the end of the day, this is completely unconstitutional as far as I'm concerned, if the county wants to do something, write tickets for people parked on the street. As far as I am concerned that is all they can do. For anyone defending the county, you're fucking nuts and are the sole reason this country is losing its rights by the day. Keep defending these bullshit actions and soon you won't have to think, the government can think for you. Assholes.

Yes, I have to agree with OCguy here. I'm glad we have this thread, I think it shows exactly who is biased based on groups they dislike (republicans mostly being christians). Those that are condemning the peaceful organization obviously and blatantly protected by the constituation, those people really should have no credibility in any other debates on this forum, their bias is astounding and ridiculous all at the same time.

If either of you were ever to be able to actually read and interpret anything, you would see that I never gave an opinion on the validity of the situation in discussion. I merely stated the irony in those that have for centuries tried to impose their morality upon others' rights to do what they will in the privacy of their own homes getting a taste of their own medicine.

You did not see my approval for the country stating a permit is required nor any approval stating that the group has the right to assemble without the need for a permit.

I guess that's what happens when you are so "blinded by your ideology", you are unable to see a neutral statement of observation for what it is. Instead, you see it as an attack.

Maybe the committee should reconsider who the real D-bag of the month award should be presented to. I can certainly see a strong case for co-winners this month.

For the record, if it is the law, the group should get the permit. If they are able to prove that the law is unconstitutional based on their 1st Amendment rights, then they deserve to be compensated for their legal expenses and any other damages. You know, exactly how the process is supposed to work. But why should we follow that line of reasoning when we can just scream persecution with only "the victim's" side of the story instead of getting all of the facts possible.

All that really matters to me is whether they're legally parked. If they're not legally parked, give them tickets. If they're legally parked, I don't think there's anything wrong with 15 people meeting at one house for a couple of hours every week. Take religion out of it, because this is not a religious issue. I'll give you a non-religious example of a similar situation - board games. It's not uncommon for board game groups to have 15 or more people. Tell me why I can't have 15 people come to my house and play board games once a week. Don't tell me we should rotate to different houses every week, because everyone else in my board game group lives in one bedroom apartments. Being allowed to have 15 of my friends come to my house to play board games is a freedom that I don't think is worth giving up for the sake of traffic abatement on a road that gets almost no traffic.

Well with CA having budget problems, I wonder if it isn't just the county trying to squeeze its people for money. Trying to make them declare it as a church to get the funds from the permit, only it backfired when the news got out.

Honestly I don't believe the Pastor has been a very considerate neighbor. He's lucky Samuel L Jackson doesn't live next door to him.
