I'm definitely a newbie, but the game is so un user friendly and hard to get a handle on. I think I'll stick to halo which has good gameplay, nice weapons, great graphics, and is easy to pick up and learn.

After you play it for a while, it's lots of fun. Maybe you don't like it because your pc lags.

What makes you think my pc lags?

AMD64 2800+ @ 2.4 ghz
Geforce nu OC unlocked
1 gb ram
etc

6 mb dsl

no lag.

I am not saying that it lags, I just meant that it could be a possible reason.

Don't approach it as anything close to a realistic game because you will be very disappointed.

Try playing Red Orchestra (mod for UT2004)
THEN you will know what spray and pray is.
71 round mag for PPsh41 and enemy at a distance of 100+ meters down an open street, with high recoil. THAT is spray and pray.
No crosshair, no ironsights (for the spray and pray). Fun :D

Is CS: Source worth getting?
I have the option of HL2 Bronze (through Steam), which works out about the same cost as the DVD verison does here in the UK, but I don't know what the boxed version comes with, it may or may not have CS :/

I'm the same. I'm awful at the game, I get killed the same stupid way every round, but I'm too stubborn to go a different way or change my strategy. I end of getting super pissed and quitting the game. As I understand, games are a way to unwind. Playing counter-strike just makes me so very very angry.

You definitely need practice.

I find you have to work at this game for some time before you'll be decent most likely.

CS:S is the multiplayer component for HL2, so yes, the boxed version will include CS:S.

Tactical Ops > CS

You can actually jump farther than 2 inches :disgust:
The guns physics model is backwards too.
In CS you DON'T lose accuracy when you run around and shoot in a sniper rifle, whereas you can't shoot crap if you run around in an automatic. BS.
Yes I've only played paintball and shot a few airsoft/pellet rifles, but that seems completely backwards to me. I can easily get a good accurate aim running around and firing in paintball, whereas it's impossible to get a good aim running around and shooting with a sniper rifle.
