To OP: Good article, good read, thanks. Please ignore the victims of ADD who have posted prolifically in this thread. They're just increasing their postcount.

Part of this is our own blame, washington won't stand up to China because they buy our debt which plugs the hole in our massive deficit spending. We have to play nice or else they won't buy our bonds anymore. One retarded thing about this situation is when clinton was president, people were bitching left and right that the democrats sold us out to the chinese. But now that bush is whoring us out to the chinese, no one gives a f*ck.

There was an interesting point made in one of the military intelligence articles recently.

Apparently, China has acquired enough of US currency in the form of bonds, if they "dropped it on the market", basically just dumped it, it would essentially shut down the US economy. If the US tried to not honor the bonds, then, obviously, WE devalue ALL our bonds (a bond that may or may not be honored has no value), and our economy tanks all the same.

This may be a bargaining chip China is buying that is better than nuclear warheads. They are acquiring the capability to completely destroy the US overnight without firing a shot.

Any links to that article? How can China have that much power while the US is watching it happen?

No link offhand, I'll try to dig up the article.

It doesn't take but a brief amount of searching on Google to verify the premise, though. China owns the second largest number of US Treasury Bonds next to Japan.

As to "watching it happen"...welllll...if one were a skeptic, one might presume the recent US land grab in the Middle East was our insurance against this. China drops our bonds, our economy collapses, we put a cork in oil coming out of the Middle East, the Chinese economy (or, military, at least) collapses.

An economic cold war, if you will.

Pfizer will soon introduce radio-frequency ID tags on all Viagra sold in the U.S., which will enable it to track drugs all the way from the laboratory to the medicine cabinet.

Does this not bother anyone? I mean just the fact that they can track everywhere the drug goes and therefore track you. Would make it easy to see where ur drug was popular though.

IIRC, these things get deactivated upon purchase. RFID only has a few foot range anyhow, so the problems are limited.

don't bonds have a maturity date and cannot be cashed in before that date? I also remember reading that when it reaches the maturity date the US can give the bond holder another bond instead of cash.
