Anything bad that happens is because the Dems still have the Senate and White House. Anything good is because the Republicans took the House. That's just how it works.

LOL! Speaking of the pot calling the kettle black...

All we've heard the last two years is the Democrats blaming the Republicans for not being able to do anything. If something bad happened, it was either "But...But...Boooooooooosh!" or "Republicans are big meanies and are obstructing us! Waaaaah!"

Interestingly enough though, the Democrats passed health care "reform" along mainly party lines and took credit for it. Care to explain this logical inconsistency? Amazing how the Democrats could magically pass this controversial legislation largely by themselves, but yet, those big, dastardly Republicans either prevent them from doing what they want or 'force' them to comply with their (the Republican's) nefarious plans.

NO ONE really expects the Republicans to be able to do anything. If they do, they're oblivious to the facts that the Democrats control the Senate and White House. What people ARE expecting, however, is for the Republicans to block further stupidity from the Democrats. Luckily for us, the Democrats will be in a position in the Senate and the White House to block Republican stupidity.

The Democrats still control 2/3 of the "policy" arms of the federal government.

Nice try though.

What are you saying? The GOP said they were taking back the country. Even the "Evil Librul Media (TM)" said they had a landslide.

Are you trying to tell us that they, GASP, LIED about what they can accomplish!

Say it ain't so! Although it's very brave to admit your side was lying.

They're politicians. Of course they lied, just like the Democrats did 2 years ago and both parties will in another 2 years.
What exactly did he dems lie about? The market is back to approximately where it was before it fell off a cliff (during Bush's term) and we have stopped shedding jobs and private sector job creation is finally just starting to go back up. Perhaps they were overly optimistic about how quickly they could cauterize the wounds but they did follow through sooner than I thought was possible.

You're insane if you'd work 80 hours a week for $70K.

There's people who work 80 hours for much less. Why? Because they have to. You know, responsibilities like kids, house, etc...But people still ask why? Because they're afraid of the alternative.

Then let me clarify my statement:

You're insane if you'd work 80 hours a week for $70K and didn't absolutely need to.

LOL. Conservatives back pedaling already.

The spin is strong from the liberals already. What do you expect the house to do really? They cant pass much, it will get killed in the senate or vetoed by Obama. All they can really do is block legislation. Passing it with 1 chamber of congress is extremely difficult. If they propose spending cuts, tax cuts, or anything else like that do you really think Obama wont just veto it?

Get realistic.

Who is backpedaling again? The Republicans control the House. That's it. They aren't going to be able to do much, and that's fine by me. Their stupid ideas won't pass and they can prevent even more dumb ideas from the Democrats from becoming law.

It isn't like they control the House, Senate, and White House and can do anything they want....

Well it's like this Jr. Both sides keep screwing the pooch. In this episode of DC Idiots on Parade, The Dems have once again proven that hubris saves the day for the Republicans, who for their part still haven't figured out what to do after Reagan.

The Reps still cannot put any changes into effect if it were to eat babies or cure all disease because the Dems can stop it, therefore the only thing they can do is what both Dems and Reps do best and that's fight each other.

Really, the only thing we need is for public services to continue. We do not need even more paperwork from a bunch of conniving hypocritical crooks. Of course some call them patriots or enlighten leaders depending on which party ass the thralls have their nose stuck up.

The kind the other party would have made if the situation was reversed. The controlling principle in DC is Party uber alles.

I don't know about that. Under Bush the Democrats went along with all kinds of shit, invasion of Iraq, Patriot Act, to name a couple.

Silly me, I thought the economy was the number 1 priority.

I see, so it is OK for politicians to lie as long as you don't consider the issues they lie about to be the top priority? About the economy, didn't Obama say that unemployment would not go above 9% (I forgot the exact number) if stimulus passed? Is that some of the "optimism" you spoke about?

That was because they saw it as political suicide if they didn't, and it shows that at least a substantial portion agreed with it anyway. Note Obama and his actions so far.

To stand against what you bring up would have meant sacrificing political ground for principle.

Did you think you were going to see that? :p

I don't think there's a snowball's chance in hell that the GOP won't start compromising with the Democrats. If the GOP had the Senate instead of the House, perhaps they could dig their heels in and obstruct everything, but not in the House. With a 2yr window in which to make their moves and appease those who voted them in they'll have to start bringing home the bacon.. which means compromise, additional spending, and none of the gridlock we need.

And then in 2008 denounced it all, blamed the Republicans, and promised to repeal/withdraw/weaken much of what Bush and Co. did with respect to the war on terror. And of course, none of that has happened yet.....

the next 2 years is going to be BRUTAL as far as governing is concerned

Economy still needs some federal intervention, and the Republicans are not going to have any of it.

the GOP will be purposefully and willfully obstructionist so that 2012 rolls around, and they can say how ineffective Obama's administration has been.

The GOP's primary goal (above even helping the economy) is to make sure Obama is a 1 term President.

Time to sit back and watch the GOP do what it does best..... not govern.

I do that for 50K. 80 hrs a week, 50K, work for someone else and no equity. Woohoo!

I hope you're looking for other employment. Working an occasional 80 hr week is one thing, but working them consistently is not right. Life is too short and interesting to work it away. :)

No it is not okay to lie, but I understand that it isn't possible to fix years of fuckups overnight. If you expected the dems to be miracle workers, you are naive. And yes the 9% (I thought it was 8%) is the optimism I was speaking about. There is a difference between outright lying and not accurately predicting the future. Do you acuse your weatherman of lying everytime the forecast doesn't turn out exactly as he expected?
