I don't really understand the point of this to be honest.

I think its so people can give out an easy to remember url for people to contact them later.

I don't really like the idea but I did try to get several variations of my fairly unique name and got none of them so I'm just not making one.

You can do a simple search as well but I guess it's just easier - that's just a convenience though... I think they showed in their intro page that the real purpose is to make you... you, which is already in every FB page / feature except for the URL, which previously had profileid=128askdljaskd1 and so forth.

thought about trying to get firstnamelastinitial, which was my email address in college, and is helpful because no one can spell my last name. forgot to wait up for it friday night though and had to settle for firstinitiallastname on saturday morning.

You guys should try taking marketable usernames like pizza, movies, music and see if you can sell it to a company for $$$

Usernames are not transferable or changeable, so I am not sure how that would work.

Unless someone uses my real name as their dance name, I am not in a rush to secure it as my username (I do not plan on using my login name for this).

I am still not all that clear as to what this gets you.

same here. i get zero hits on my real name (besides a few industry/ work items) and im ok with that. no reason to change things and involve my real name with the two intarwebz handles i use.

In what way is it better?

So now you can have a unique url, with a profile that looks identical to everyone else on there? That's awesome, no wait, never mind...

I took a username, but there wasn't much of a point as the privacy settings are fairly high on my profile anyway...

Please tell me that is real (didn't bother to check

Anywho, mine is here and I don't care who abuses it, or otherwise. I have never felt anonymous on the internet anyways.

signed up just so I could get facebook.com/kobesabitch and it was taken. It took me 15 tries to get a name that reflects the statement that Kobe's a bitch. Now I have a unique name with a profile that looks the same as everyone else. And it only took them a few years to catch up to Myspace with the whole custom URL thing.
