Link Deleted currently has a few pics taken from news footage of people jumping.

I think that they probably were trying to escape from the agony of 1st degree burns any way they could.

If I had to die, I would have tried to fashion a hang glider out of the curtains or something.

A tiny chance is better than none (ask lottery players).

DO NOT post links to such filth again.
This is a bannable offense.

<< unless they were professional sky divers, they'd prolly be fainted before the hit the ground, no? I agree too, falling is the quickest and least painful way to go. >>

As far as I know, you faint anyway before hitting the ground, because the brain can't take the ineviable death...it's the fast coming ground, what's also the bungee jumping kick...but there you KNOW you will be stopped before you ditch...
Who ever parachuted will know this incredible thrill...
I also would have chosen the last nice flight if the only choice was the sort of death...

<< I doubt I ever will, but if I ever work in a skyscraper, I just might keep a parachute in my desk drawer. >>

Didn't think of that at first, but that was an excellent idea!

Even if all people don't know how to use them they still will have a better chans of surviving than those who don't have any.

Maybe now they will keep some rope ladders or something on the top floors of tall buildings. Why don't they do that already? ->$$$<- It sucks that preventions are made only after the fact. Deploying our armed forces around the US: as if those scum are coming back tomorrow. How long can we afford to keep our country this secure? Drastic increases in airport security. Did we think a couple of minimum wage workers were going to keep out terrorists? We need to plan for all situations that may occur in the future. if that means walking around with a parachute, a gas mask, and a bulletproof radiation suit all day, so be it.

You'd probably be in shock both from the explosions and from the burns. I dont think you'd be thinking straight.

i would rather jump than being sizzle to death, or even getting your skull split open by a 3 ton concrete. Poor people :(, they definitely don't deserve that. So sorry for those people's lives thats been cut short. Your death will be avenged soon ....

I seriously think I would keep a parachute in my desk drawer since I am terrified of heights.

I'd try to see if there is some way to get into the floor below me first, and failing that I'd look for something I could potentially use as a parachute (I know it wouldn't work but I'd try). Then I'd jump. :(

I'm not sure if you'd even feel a split second of pain. The nerve conduction velocity is not instantaneous so you'd probably be dead before you even had the chance to feel pain. So I think I'd rather go that way instead of burning to death.

Those images were haunting. I can't imagine the terror those people felt. I have an extreme fear of height and I think the reason those people jumped was because of intense heat. From what I understand, the heat was so intense it was melting steel (that's why the towers eventually collapsed). The walls and floor probably felt like a frying pan. Just a horrible, horrible way to die.

Actually the idea of having a parachute in every desk isn't such a bad idea. Granted, it would cost a lot of money and training, but it would save so many lives....

I dont know about this case, but I remember reading that when some people tried to jump off the Golden Gate Bridge they were unconscious before they hit the water. Your body can only take so much trauma (physical OR mental) before you go into shock and shut down all but the most vital systems (heart, lungs). I would assume falling 100+ stories is about as traumatic as possible. So most likely they were already unconscious.

Even if they were conscious, you would never feel pain when you hit, it would be instant.
