Book smarts or street smarts?

Met a few contrasting ones lately and have gotten to know them. One is very street smart, average books, and the wittiest person I may have ever met.

Another is moderately book smart with very good grades, sucks at math, but a bitch. Ya, except she's out of college, an admin assistant, and will still argue for an A+ over an A in continuing-ed courses. She thinks she's smarter than everyone, has a stick up her ass about people with bad grades, or whom went to college.

Third is very book smart, has a bachelors, masters and is on track to be an engineer. Very confident and authoritative... when it comes to work. I've become her 'help manual' for dealing with people, and she seems retarded when it comes to them.

Answer is no if she's challenged in either category.

Somewhat applicable article that I re-discovered again today.

http://www.prometheussociety.org/articles/Outsiders.html

i know i'm smarter than a good chunk of the population, and here are my quirks: i probably have a little ADD in me because i get bored easily unless i'm very interested in the subject matter. it's soooooo hard for me to be around ppl who discuss meaningless ideas/things because my mind shuts down or goes on autopilot.....which means of course, i'm pegged as standoffish or arrogant.

and the article u linked....because of its length, i'd have to talk myself beforehand into reading it.

Heh...just basically explores the relationship of high iq and social mal-adjustment, specifically in regards to intelligence societies.

I could date someone who's less "smarter" than me if you measure that by pure intelligence or education. but I absolutely won't marry someone who's content being dumb and who has zero intellectual curiosity and is instead obsessed with superficial things.

I'd say I agree with this. I'm sure my IQ is higher than my wife's, but she's definitely not dumb. She's smart in different things than I, so we complement each other well. She's also well-educated, which I often think makes a bigger difference for compatibility than raw intelligence.
