that is the specs on the next xbox that were released last week or so, and supposedly it will be on demo at e3.
since you seem to know it all, what were the original specs for the xbox 1 and what did it actually end up being?
No doubt. Mark my words if you want, but the new Xbox will have 3 G5-derivative chips in it. The sad thing is that I happen to know from an industry insider friend, that the new PS3
WILL be even more powerful then the Xbox2.
I understand your sceptisism, its warrented, they said the same thing about the "Emotion Engine". The fact is that the EE was and is more powerfull then the Pentium 3 in the current Xbox, its just insanely difficult to program for. To this day, developers haven't figured out half of the coding processes that would bring out the EE. And at 200 Mhz vs the 766 P3 or whatever they threw in the Xbox, its quite a powerful chip indeed.
That being said, the Cell Architecture isn't the same as the EE. It is the same in that its going to be insanely difficult to program for. But not that much MORE difficult then the multi-threaded Xbox2. Both systems have multiple cores or CPU's and will be difficult to program for.
I understand that they say the same thing with every new console, but its never been a fact that new consoles will be more powerful. Which in this case is a fact. The Xbox2 and PS3 will be capable of a lot more then PC's will be at the same time, meaning later this year (oct) for the Xbox2 and the PS3 either late this year or early next. This is a fact. So will consoles take over the PC market? No, but its getting closer and closer so that one day may see this happen. What we do know, is if the developers and programmers can do it right, the games on this gen of consoles will finally look better then their PC counterparts, which is saying something.
