Could my Volvo S80 Turbo really beat a Lexus IS300 ??

According to MotorTrend my car does 0-60 in 6.8 and an IS300 does 0-60 in 7.1 or 7.2

Can anyone back these numbers up?

Oh, and I know that realistically my Volvo would lose a race.. it corners like a 3600lb car. :)

Note: I am making this post because 1) I am sick of IS300 kids who think they own the road 2) I know a few girls who think my car "looks slow" :(

Its almost like the G4 vs PIV debate haha....

Also, how does this compare to say... a V6 Accord (2003) and (2002). BMW 325i?

your car has a lot of power.. its pretty heavy though. But i do believe the numbers. Of course, in anything but a striaght line, the lexus would own you :p

(spec v owns both :p)

The S80 doesn't have a huge amount of power, but it's pretty good (270hp). Better than the 215hp the Lexus makes, even if the S80 is a few hundred pounds heavier. If those numbers are what Motor Trend says, I'd believe them. They do good testing.

well me and a friend of mine blew away an IS300 in a Volvo C70 with the high pressure turbo, so I would think yea, because we ended up being ahead by a lot.

Volvo turbos do a pretty good job of hauling ass. They are just a car no one thinks can go fast.

the explorers times are probably damn near, if not past 20 seconds. not exactly a quickie. ;)

It really all depends on how good you can drive it. Not every IS300 driver can drive it skillfully. If you consider yourself a skilled driver then the chances are you can beat most IS300 out there. My friend has a 94 Accord and 2K2 RSX, V-4 and I-4, both stick, and he can accelerate like a beast, but both of those aren't very fast cars. As long as you can get the jump start and the shifting gear down, you can beat many many drivers and racer-wannabes.

hmmm both of them are in a whole different class (lower middle class vs. upper middle class (S80)) also the BMW is in a different class than the honda (honda breadnbutter, BMW premium)

its like comparing apples to oranges. Also all this blowing away is not what counts. just read a track (Hockenheim) test on the Audi RS6/BMW M5 and Audi S3/Seat Leon Cupra R. Surprisingly both the Seat and the S3 where only 2s slower than the RS6 and M5 around the track despite having not even half the HP. And both the Seat and the S3 being faster around the curves (thus higher g's) they only lost due to slower acceleration on the straights thus having slower top speeds before the braking points. So basically a skilled driver could easily own the RS6 and M5 driven by normal drivers.

But ok in american style driving only staightaway acceleration (low skill (in my book)) is important :)

so the S80 will probably win

Actually, Ive considered chipping the car. Supposedly, you can get it to 340+ HP. THAT would be wicked :)

yeah, that'd kick ass

have you ever wondered how we came about the expression "kick ass" meaning something is good? I mean, really think about it. It may feel good to kick "somebody's" ass, but figuratively speaking, what does "kick ass" really mean...? It's like a command, but it means something is good.

correction, NOS.
;)

Actually he really meant more boost. It is a lot better because you don't have to keep getting it refilled and the nozzle never sticks open causing your intake to blow up.

heh. now you're taking all the fun out of it.
of course, upping the boost probably also is doing hell to his engine. I wonder how much 'turbo lag' you'd get also.

damn.. i wish i had a turbo for my car.. i think it'd kick ass.

Don't chip it, all chips ever do is just turn up the boost. Get a MBC (manual boost controller) or EBC (electric) and then you can put it on normal boost for when you are just driving around and high boost for when you want that extra kick. Turbo cars always respond really good to any exhaust mod, a good downpipe will give you noticably faster spool time.

When a car starts out with a turbo its always easy to modify it a little and get quite a bit more power.

NOS.... Nitrous! NOS is a company that Holley owns that sells NITROUS kits.

i think a chip would be a good idea, more boost wouldn't be that bad, just make sure to let the car run down so it has time to cool off, a chip would also reduce the lag time too which would help you a lot. turbos also get great gains with a free flowing exhaust, if you don't want the loud hum of a 3in catback exhaust, try going with a electronic cutout, i'm sure u'll get noiceable gains with one of those.
