But still, Costco is a ripoff on that deal. Soda and a hot dog are 75 cents max at a grocery store. I suppose it is a few cents for toppings, if you need toppings. Yes, you don't have to do any work, but you have to drive all the way to a Costco.

Rip-off? No work, ready to eat, and free refills for $1.50?

I don't see why he complained about it. There's a profit on any food sold anywhere - fast food, sit down restaurants, etc. They're not going to sell you anything at-cost. Their profit margins of 4% per item are already slim enough.

Just like IKEA

IKEA - filled with over priced junk

Costco - select high quality products at great prices.

I never said IKEA had fantastic quality stuff. I'm saying you can't go in for just one thing or for a quick 10 minute trip, like the OP said in his original post.

I just walked into Costco last night on a guest pass to check it out. Honestly, the only thing that caught my eye was the ribeye at 6.99 /lb. Not worth paying $50 just to buy those though, at least I don't think. Gonna check my local butcher instead next week.

We're on vacation in Kauai right now and went down to Costco the first day to stock up on some food for the trip. The food area at this store is outside and it was packed. People everywhere. I'm assuming that the food is available to everyone, regardless of whether they have a membership or not. It's got to be the best deal on the islands as far as food goes.

I used that $50 off coupon for the Panasonic DMP-BD35 Blu-ray player shortly before we left. It made the price $225 which I thought was damned good.

Hey has anyone else's costco got a new "pulse action" fountain soda machine? I swear coke tastes better from that thing than any other source. Always seems to be perfect...

I usually walk out of Costco with exactly what I came for. I bring a list most times. Sometimes I walk the rows to see what they have but usually don't bite. I know what I'm looking for. I buy clothes there once in a while, but usually know what I'm looking for. Bought a few jackets there. Was looking for a jacket a month ago but didn't see what I wanted at Costco, not even close.

who buys clothes from costco?

I have a very nice shirt I got there some years ago, one of my favorites. I also get my underwear and white T shirts and socks there. Cheap but OK by me.

Went to Costco w/ a roommate and ended up spending over $300 on mostly food. And no, I didn't get 200 hotdog/soda combos.

I think I pay about $45/year for my Costco membership, but it's worth it to me. I save a lot of money over what I'd pay at local markets just for staple food items, which I buy in bulk at Costco. I also usually get my gasoline while I'm there, just about the best deal around usually. Been getting my tires there too.

I went in last weekend to pick-up a few small things (milk, bagels, etc) and b/c of that damn coupon book, I spent $200.

You are their targeted customer when they send out those coupon books. I use 'em, going to in a week, but I know what I'm going to get (Turbotax), one or two other things.

I  Costco

I don't always, but often really dig Costco. They usually (the ones I go to) give out free food samples all over the place and I eat 1/2 a meal just walking through the place. I know what I want when I go in and usually walk out with just that. Sometimes they don't have free samples, and I think it's just the time of day I walk in.

what flavor? the carrot cake is amazing!

Sorry, carrots (or any other vegetable for that matter) should NOT be in cake. :|

I love me some carrots, but carrot cake is terrible.

I wish I could have that hotdog+soda combo. :'( No soda for me... Water... ugh. I want some soda!

Be aware, there's a crapload of oil in carrot cake. Look at a recipe. I love it, though.

2$ for a massive slice of pizza and a soda with refils... hard to beat.

Their whole baked pizzas look like a pretty good deal if you need a whole pizza.

hebrew ntl hotdog...

Because we know how much those Jews love their pork... Seriously, what the hell is a Hebrew ntl hotdog? Lox shoved into a skinny bagel?

It's a kosher hot dog. No pork and it's kosher beef. However, I have a hard time buying a package. Look on the label, it's still 70% fat calories IIRC.

In my experience, if you don't spend enough, they turn you around when they check your receipt. So...in order to save the time of standing in the line again, just spend the minimum $100 before you try to leave. (sometimes, it seems like the minimum has gone up to $200 or even $400)

uh? WTF are you talking about????? there is no such minimum.

Yes and No. The only coupons I used were for things I would normally have gotten - TurboTax, Replacement Oral-B heads, Pizza, etc.

I guess I normally would buy the stuff spread out over time but I just bought everything at once.

I'm going to drive to Costco right now. Turbotax is the first thing on my list. I'm gonna check out the brush heads, but I think that's for the newer ones, not the old ones like I have so I think I'm SOL there. No pizza for me today.
