Couldn't care less about Costco. Got tired of them making me do all the work, treating me like a criminal when I leave and then charging me for the privilege. Gave up the membership years ago and have no intention of going back.

What work does Costco made their customers do? How are they treating you like a criminal?

One of the reasons I was a Costco member was the benefits of Amex card without paying its added annual fees. Visa sucks in that dept. Adios Costco

wow.. visa agreed to 0.4% swipe fees?
Citibank will be the new preferred card of Costco but any Visa branded card will work.

Is Capital One's 1.5% card a Visa?
and if so, I suspect the cashback will be changed to 1.5% except at Costco.

yeah, the Capital One Quicksilver is a Visa.
Too bad the Citi Double Cash(2%) is a MC. 😉

Never in my life did I have a annual fee card of ANY kind (and many of them are visa).

What are you talking about willis?

I hope Capital one doesn't get the deal. By far the worst CC cards.....

Citi is fine with me, especially if it includes higher reward %

I don't really give a shit about labels/names......higher reward the better.

Think he's saying Visa doesn't have as good benefits as AmEx. He enjoyed having the benefits with AmEx without the annual fee due to Costco membership.

I don't understand.

Costco membership fee is not going away regardless what card they go with.....

Costco Amex has no annual fee

I think in this day and age that forcing customers to use a specific card type (Amex or Visa or MC or Discover) is asinine. Let me decide which card I want to use with the features I negotiate with the card issuers and you just pony up the f-ing swipe machine like a good little pus-pus.

Then don't get a Costco membership?

Apparently someone doesn't know how merchant processing and the fees associated with it works.

Let me try to break it down

Amex card = great benefits BUT $100 annual fees, great to have it in my pocket and would like to have.

Visa card = OK Ok benefits but annual fees, nothing really exiting there, don't care much for them, already have 3.

NOW, iff I pay for costco membership, I get AMEX card and have to pay no annual fees = Personal satisfaction and profit. In other words, by getting Costco membership I get awesome costco warehouse deals + I get awesome AMEX card, a total value of $210 for only $110! Save $100.

Then comes 2016, time to renew costco membership, I pay $110 and what do I get? Just the "costco warehouse deals" not the AMEX card benefits anymore, and now the question becomes, is $110 worth it just for Costco membership???

Costco will cut a deal with another credit card and give you the same (if not better) rewards that you already have.

😉

Yup. There are premium VISA cards with annual fees that give better benefits and just as good customer service (I think) as AMEX cards.

Case in point the cards I linked a few weeks back, Chase Sapphire and Chase Ink.

To name a few...

Rental insurance
Twitter Coupons
Double warrants

I doubt any other card (VISA) will do that just to get Costco customers.

Even if they have "good" benefits, Black is the only one that comes close to AMEX. Now if they give black for free i will be all for it

You can get all three of those for free with a no-annual-fee Amex. I think the only difference, really, is the rewards system. Unless you have an elevated amex beyond the standard CostCo one.

Black matches the Platinum card. Most of my standard VISAs have rental insurance and double warranty. Now the claims process might not be as simple but they have it.

They don't bag your stuff, they don't even have bags. Also everyone has to show their receipt.

Some people are apparently very sensitive to this. It doesn't affect us because we are mostly buying large stuff that wouldn't fit in a bag, and since EVERYONE has to show their receipt, it's not really much of an affront unless you choose to take it that way.

They always put my stuff in a giant box.
