hmm, interesting thread topic, I always wondered myself about Costo's famous policy. I purchased a 512mb flash card from them, and I am unsatisfied
with the fact that 3 months later they replaced it in their inventory with a 1gig for nearly the same price. I was wondering if it would have been ok to return it, but I let it go, threw away box and receipt as well, you lose some, you win some, and you always lose with technology vs. time.

Don't abuse the system like that >< why not just steal your ipod then?

I believe that they will try to take care of you, but they will note if they have in the past and what have you.

you return a cracked LCD, and you tell us not to abuse the system? HAH

Well, I'm sure if the policy gets abused enough for long enough it will be changed. So don't abuse it....if I can get 3 years of work out of some electronics before cracking them...I won't be returning them.

If I had bought my 27" TV from them instead of Walmart though, I would have returned it in a heartbeat when it died (completely out of warranty) 1 year and 3 months later.

If something is cheaper....probably not getting returned. Expensive and defective...going back. Expensive and got my money's worth out of it....not going back.

at that point he probably was no longer satisfied with the purchase, so he took them up on their guarantee. he paid his yearly membership fees in order to use the system, i don't see that as abuse. if costco didn''t want people to use their return policy, they wouldn't offer it.

no longer satisfied? he cracked the LCD. last time i checked LCDs don't crack on their own. if that isn't abusing the system, what qualifies as abusing it?

I was Costco Sales Associate for 3 months over the holidays. Costco does have a lifetime return policy on all items excluding gasoline, food items more than 25% consumed, and computers. In the case of computers there is a 6 month return policy. All technical support for the products must be provided by the manufacturer.

Now, Costco will most likely change the policy for plasma televisions as well because those have a pretty limited lifetime and a lot of customers have been returning the plasma screens.

What qualifies as abusing the system is getting an item like a paint sprayer and then bringing it back every few months instead of taking good care of it.

If you abuse the return policy they can and likely will refuse to renew your membership.

You should also keep in mind the return policy only applies while you are a member, if your membership lapses then you cannot return anything.
