I just did an online quote and it seems too good to be true. I'm gonna call in tomorrow to get a quote from an actual person but the thing is I'm not a COSTCO member. Can I still do this??? If not, can I just go directly to AMEX and assume I'll get the same rate?

I originally thought that it didnt matter about membership since it doesnt ask for a number. But i got an email saying "please respond with your costco membership number to ensure this great discounted rate. So it looks like by being a costco member you get 20% off the "regular" rate. So if the rates are actually good for you then buying a costco membership may pay off. Cheap insurance, cheap bulk products and cheap hotdogs/pizza/churros or chicken bakes!

Too bad it isnt that good for most of you though. Sorry.

I got a quote from costco ins. and it is $30 cheaper than 21th ins for 1/2 yr, but too bad, I just got coverage from 21th couple month ago and they require $50 to cancel it before the policy ended. I will have to stick with them for 3-4 month.

Unfortuanately many insurance companies will practice age discrimination.

<< Yes, I'm generally angry all the time...but my point is that Costco buys in bulk and sells in bulk...The insurance industry doesn't work like that, its based on risk...The lower the risk the lower the price, the higher the risk the higher the price...Any price advantage from a costco/amex alliance is probably negligible.. >>

Yes, the insurance industry derives it's rates largely from risk factors. But have you never heard of a sales commission? If Amex opens up it's offices and pays salespeople to tool around and cold call people that raises the premiums they must charge. Assuming Costco provides them with referrals and human interaction is kept to a minimum the online order could save Amex a lot of money, even after the discount and the referral fee to Costco.

<< Remember that a good insurance company is one that will pay out quickly when there's an accident. >>

If it's not your fault, than it doesn't matter if your insurance company pay out quickly. And only than, if you have collision or comprehensive, your insurance company will pay for you.
