it doesn't matter...I decided long ago that dominator price never reflects the value of the module. next memory I buy will be imported from Europe (Cellshock).

Do you need you actually need assistance here with a Dominator issue?

Look, the problem is. Mushkin differentiates different ICs with heatspreader color. Black = Micron guaranteed, green = something else never micron. Red = binned Micron guaranteed. Now, Mushkin is not my first choice but they do differentiate. You guys, just slap a new sticker on the same exact PCB. Post it on your site or not, but NO RETAILER will give you exact hand picked part and revision numbers from the warehouse. No matter what you say, there's NO WAY TO TELL. Unless of course I want to pay $400+ for 2GB which I have to say... no thanks. G.SKill...the HZ series guarantees Micron IC (black heatspreader) other color = perhaps promos, perhaps elpedia etc. Crucial is always Micron based (no binning here though). Do you see where I'm going? I understand you can't make everything with Micron, but you should differentiate between Micron and Non micron with the heatspreader color. Or do what OCZ and Team does. When one IC is not available they EOL the part and release a different part entirely.

This is one thing we are trying to figure out how to deal with. Trust, me it is not simple.

Now, can you either give me a link or edit out where you are calling me a liar?

so that means assuming that the promos are cheaper, they were sold to vendors such as newegg for a lower cost yet the cost change was never reflected to the consumer because vendors kept the price the same...

On your own website for the IC info it was listed as "Dominator uses Micron..." This has been changed now that there's the 6400 kits. Now, people who read that dominator = micron will possibly buy the 6400 hoping to get a low bin micron part that just needs extra juice. This was misleading info no way around it.

OK, is this applied to vanilla 6400C4 too? I don't have th dominator version but "regular" XMS with Promos also.

Calm down everyone. This is not that big of a deal. In the end, if it works at the guaranteed clock speed that is all they can guarantee. You as the consumer have to be watchful for ram that is "better than the ordinary." Why do you think Team Group has done so well without any advertising. Just let it go now, everyone has gotten their points in. Now it is time to move on.

I will never get how people can feel "cheated" when they buy a product that exactly performs to the product's spec.

"Well I bought the Yugo because some dude, who I've never met and for all I know is not a dude, on a website somewhere on the internet said it would morph into a BMW if I over-volted it 20% above stock...but it didn't, so I've decided the manufacturer is an uber liar".

Look folks, if you want DDR2-1000 then buy some freaken ram that is spec'ed to DDR2-1000. Everyone wants to feel like it is their right to "cheat the system" by buying the low spec stuff DDR2-800.

If you don't want to pay for it then don't expect to get it. You are not buying micron IC's, you are buying 6400C4D's and that means anything the manufacterer wants it to mean.

I don't get it, all this bizotching over bait-and-switch. Is this what being an enthusiast has come to mean around here? You get what you pay for, that will never change.

Idontcare, I agree with you in theory but practice is very different. Have you checked AnandTech's memory reviews? They're practically overclock-fests. Overclocking is big and manufacturers know that. Especially when it comes to memory, I would go as far as to say that overclocking is the single most important factor to appeal to enthusiasts. (Can you think of anything else, maybe other than prices?) Any enthusiast memory vendor would want to be known as top overclocker so that's why some will send 'cherries' to reviewers. (And keep the fall-back couch of more relaxed specs for their products, to prevent mass RMA 😀)

Said that, I'm inclined to believe Corsair is actually doing this from a good will. I just hope they take into account that MSRP and actual market prices can be quite different.

P.S. Yellowbeard: Just in case, I'm a proud customer of Corsair Dominator Airflow. (arrived today!)

I for one will continue to purchase Corsair products. They have been great in the past (3200ll, 3200xl and various VS), are great right now (8500C5) and I'm sure will be in the future.
This situation is a lot like buying a new car. Same car on the same lot might come with Pirelli tires, some with Michelin and some with Bridgstone but at the end of the day they are all speed rated the same...

They just aren't pricing their module's competitively. There's plenty of Promos etc memory out there for alot less than what Corsair is selling for. So if you're not looking strictly for D9 there's plenty of places to look. Even for D9 there's plenty of places.
