Correcting Racism

Lets say that you have to come up with a plan to end racism in America (and the world if you like). Whatever the plan, it must be completed in 100 years time. Budget doesn't matter, changes in government are able to be made in whatever way you like.

What is your solution? More strict laws against racist comments? Kill every race except for one? Or should we just ignore it and hope it goes away. (Or do you think it is pretty much already gone)

I'd be interested to see what sort of solutions are offered?

Sounds like a beauty pageant question.

You cant stop human nature. There will always be prejudice and racism everywhere. You cant just throw $$$ at something and make it go away, (Even though that is an American mentality)

The question isn't if people are free to be racist or not, it's that racism is viewed as a negative thing that we should fix if we can. People are free to be literate or illiterate but it doesn't mean that we as a society shouldn't teach people how to read.

The only way your argument would hold up is if you think racism isn't a negative thing. I assume that's not what you meant.

People said that about slavery too.

It would have.

Perhaps. Perhaps not. Likely, it would have, but it would have taken longer.

What about Apartheid in South Africa? Would it have ended on it's own?

Social justice is achieved through activism, not some natural force. Oppression is great for the oppressors, and they will resist change. Therefore, progress needs to be forced, not just waited out.

every black man on the moon! (yes its the punch line to a joke)

Racism would become much less prevelant in today's society if people didnt shout it every time something happens to someone of the non white race... black people didnt pass an exam... exam is racist. mexican gets shot, shooter is racist... black kid pulls a gun on a cop and then gets blasted, cops were racist... If we just said to ourselves "you know, not everything is racist" and started to pull back on that front, i think there would be much less hate... a LOT of the hate stems from those who view most blacks as having a persecution complex.

Not every negative thing needs to be "corrected." Society is going to have faults that it will either learn from and largely grow out of or it won't. Trying to "fix" these problems just exacerbates the problem or makes more problems.

We can start by making any form of affirmative action a federal crime. That would be a good start.

I don't think racism will ever go away in my lifetime but I wish it would because I've already been told by 4 different women that they had a problem with me being mixed (spaniard/black) before, during, or after I started dating them. Knife in the heart.

Everyone thinks I'm Cuban at first glance. It's not until I say I'm half black does it become a problem.

Yeah, well that's wrong to and sexist. AA is blatant institutional racism and it needs to end now. As long as this legally mandated and allowed racist practice is in place it remains the most racist piece of our nation.

AA is neither racist nor sexist. If it were, then POC and women would be overrepresented in positions of power. The reality is that white men are still privileged over the rest of society. Righting those wrongs is not sexism or racism, it's justice.

White male ex-cons are more easily employed than non-criminal black men

Well, I think a real answer would be wasted here, so I'll make a point instead.

One way would be to transfer wealth so that nearly all blacks are the wealthiest people in he nation. The new Bill Gates, the new Walton family, the new Warren Buffet, all black.

Drive to the nice gated community, look to the CEOs, the owners of businesses, you see mostly black faces. Filling the ghettos, mopping the floors, are whites.

People's tendency to worship the wealthy would lead them to think well of blacks.

Well Luckily, Al Sharpton and Jesse Jackson are old. Once they die it will be a step in the right direction for solving the "racial divide" that they create.

They are the ones that bring it up and won't let it die, because that's how they make money. Damn Uncle Toms.

QFT

No, no, no. You guys are way off base. It isnt racism/discrimination if it is against middle-class males of European descent with no learning disabilites or handicaps.

Technically it's been illegal all along (unconstitutional). Its just that no one has the balls to enforce it.
The SCOTUS avoids it like the plague, and any politician would be commiting suicide by addressing it.

Clearly we disagree on how change occurs. I think gay people should be allowed to get married. An increasing number of people share that view. I think this is the result of an increasing comfort level society is naturally developing concerning gay people. There is also an increase in anti-gay feelings largely as a reaction to activism on the marriage issue. Forcing the issue now is increasing opposition and hate, creating more of a problem than if widespread acceptance were allowed to occur naturally. And of course meaningful change takes time more time than trying to legislate the problem away, but I still feel that creates and prolongs more problems than it may seem to solve on the surface.

How is AA unconstitutional?

Women wanted equal rights, let them have equal rights. They should compete on a level playing field with everyone else, just like Blacks, Browns, Yellows, and Whites should.
A lot of the problems with AA are that an unqualified person will apply for the job and get it because they are the right race, Then people that were passed up or that now have to work with the unqualified person are pissed that AA screwed everyone.

I think that the current most dangerous racism situation in the world is the strength of the far-right in Europe, so I would start there. I would probably start with disbanding several European governments and perhaps putting them under an international authority. A thorough de-Nazification and cultural revolution program would then commence.
