I'm replying here, I would reply at hardforum except as you all know, that thread got locked.

I came asking for help and the response was enormous. I also went to hardforum and genmay. I made almost the same post in each forum. I said what I was going to do, then asked for help. I didn't mean to trick anyone into helping, and when I came back thanking everyone, I meant it. I never promised anything other than to run f@h on whatever I could buy if I won. I did not mention the other forums helping, in all honesty it never even struck my mind as being important. I certainly was not trying to piss off or mislead anyone.

I'm sorry that some of you feel like I was deceiving, it was not my intention. I did not mean to upset anyone, and I can see that I have. I apologize for this. I don't see how working against me to punish me is going to make you feel better about it either, especially since you are punishing me for a crime that I did not know existed and certainly did not intentionally break. But do what you have to do, I guess.

So, thanks to everyone that helped me, sorry to anyone I upset. That's all.

Workingnonstip,

I am only speaking for myself here.

What happened to my perspective is that from your first post, I believed I was helping out a TeAmMate.. a new one, but a TeAmMate none the less. I'm sure you know from reading our forum that this is one of the underlying pleasures in the DC community here.

When it became clear that you saw us as just a resource to help you win your money..... well, that made me feel exploited and I was surprised (to say the least) that you would believe we were nothing more than a supermarket of CPU cycles rather than a circle of friends.

Anyway, I am pleased that you showed the respect to try and make right this misunderstanding even though you know flames will probably follow.

I am not going to be participating in the Cornell experiment anymore because I have a sour taste in my mouth over the whole thing. I will not be folding for anyone in the project, but please don't let there be any misunderstanding..... I don't blame anyone who chooses to fold for one of your competitors. You sold out 3 sets of teammates and don't deserve to win $$.

Now with all that said.... know that AT forums welcome people who choose to be here and you are not an exception to that philosophy... just understand that, at least for a while you will be expected to be a contributer..... not a taker... ummmmk?

I will no longer be folding for workingnonstop. I am not sure if I will be folding for anyone anymore, but if any of the other competitors in the competition want to recruit me you need to ask and give me a good reason.

This is another member of the Horde coming to drop some $.02. I never folded for Bruce (but I was oh-so-close), but I kept tabs on the situation and I've gotta say, even I feel jaded.

My suggestion (and I'm seriously considering picking up the project now) is to cruch for #4. When workingnonstop's production drops off (which we know it will), #2 will pass him up before long. If we work for #3 and #4 we'll help them stay in the race and knock workingnonstop out of the running.

For what it's worth

Very nice post. Although I never participated in the Cornell project (FaD needs my help much more!), I have to say that not being vindictive is a positive thing. But to each his/her own. :)

I don't know what to make of all this. Insidious - great post. I also felt like the team I fold for was the only ones helping him out. The truly ironic thing here to me, is we get mad that other teams were helping out. That was Workingnonstop's really only fault, he had no idea the competition between the teams.

This whole thing ended up in the crapper, kinda going against the whole DC sprit I'm guessing. I once heard "Anytime money enters the equation, the equation changes".

I've giving workingnonstop more crap than anyone else, in a fun sprited fashion. I thought it would be neat if some of my ideas panned out, but the did not. I can't fault him for that (and don't), frankly praising him for being honest and not backing out after we won is more in order.

How can I make sure the "winner" donated- I can't.

I still have not figured out what I'm going to do, if anything. Any mention of this at the H will be deleted, take that for what it's worth. Honestly if this stupid program was not so crappy (errors up the butt, bandwith pig) I'd already be doing something.

I've still got an idea kicking around out there, not sure if it's gonna pan out. Slamming this guy off the top 3 list, that is harsh. 99.99% of the time I'd be all for it, I just think that really goes against the whole DC spirit. (What is this warm/fuzzy crap coming out of my mouth)

Kinda funny, I found the GenMay thread which pissed me off to no end. But I also got the new client from the post by workingnonstop alearting me to the new client. I never knew about AnandTech was going too. Makes you wonder how many more are out there.

For what it's worth...

I just finished reading the thread. When I got to the end, it really depressed me. I do think that no matter how much Workingnonstop apologizes, this was wrong. I have spendt over $5,000 on machines to add, and about $150/month on electricity to get to 8th place in F@H (addictive) but I did it for science, and a little fun, NOT MONEY, since as you can see it cost me instead of getting me money. I will continue to support TeamAnandtech in F@H (though I may turn off some of the boxes soon), and I am glad I didn;t get sidetracked on this.

Don't let this take the fun out of your hobby markfw900. These 'glitches' just happen sometimes and shouldn't be let to get too big.
At risk of feeding the addiction, let me suggest.....with so many machines I bet you could have a blast if you put some with the TAS rally team and enjoyed a change of pace for a bit rather than pull the plug all together. The shakes aren't too bad, but the runny nose is simply embarrassing (TeAm AT withdrawl)

Cheers

-maybe we need an AnaHordeatech project -

Come on over and help us beat OCAU!!! please... ahh come on....

I've been mulling what to do, yea maybe just do nothing and fold on with F@H is the best for now.

I stopped the Cornell program 5 days ago anyways, I did put up 60k in two days under a different user just to see what my output was. Got in trouble over that one too...

I'll be folding for el28.

Their servers seem to be down however. If anyone could e-mail me a copy of the install to the e-mail address in my profile that would be great!

Sid I didn't get you rcomment about the TAS rally team (sorry to be so stupid) Please elaborate. And BTW the reason I am shutting some boxes off is to save on the rediculous electric bill.

I thought you were saying you were turning them off because of being depressed by this thread.... I was just recommending the TA Sentinal team as a change of pace to bring the fun back. I didn't realilze you were shutting some down to save the $$. I bet all those computers do suck up some juice.

It's times like this when I'm glad I live in a college dorm. I don't have to pay the electricity bill! But then again, the housing fee is through the roof... Might as well take advantage :D

In hopes no one will call me a backstabber, since the CTC contest really doesn't mean much for any particular team...

Quick update on my status:
Marty has contacted me and asked me to put up a donation (if I win) to a CPU contest at HOCP in exchange for his help. Details on the current contest are here, though this seems like it may be a continuing thing. He seems to be somewhat neutral in this whole TeAm vs. Horde thing (seems to be more of a freelancer than anything else), so I'm probably going to take him up on it. It seems like a decent cause, in terms of promoting folding and DC in general, and it doesn't look like it's affiliated with any particular team. It's not all about the money ;)

I'm hoping no one here will take offense to this, hence why I'm laying out the facts. If you feel so inclined to stop working on this project all together, I wouldn't mind. Heck, help out some of the other top 10! dcc34 is a friend of mine and initially started working with her friends to get a little cash for spring break. Of course, most of her team gave up after they got bumped down to fourth, and felt they didn't have much chance of catching up... Don't get me wrong though, I still like winning. I'd just much rather give other people a chance as well.

Once the contest is done (and my computer gets a few days rest), I'll probably come back and help out the TeAm. Granted, I won't be able to give all the resources I've commandeered for the CTC contest, since I don't actually own all of the computers (and some of them aren't connected to comodity internet).

As for current stats, the last number I saw for myself was 466339. Top10 page still seems to be down, though the addition of an error page (instead of an SQL error) made it difficult for me to keep refreshing. Once again, thanks to those who are supporting this project! Maybe some of you should enter the CPU contest as well ;)
