intel better make tons of those Q6600's,there'll be really high demand for them
quad-core is really going mainstream

Pentium Es are listed on the first page already. Don't care about Celerons ;)
Thanks though.

I wanted to point out that the E2xxx series will be available in June, not Aug.

Oh yes, they will... they are really trying to put AMD out of it's misery.

LOL.

You guys forget the enthusiast market is a tiny part of the overall market.

In retail, AMD is alive & well.

Highest end C2Ds available are the E6400, or occasional E6600s, which means they're only a minor performance advantage over AMD, & there're usually more expensive too.

And considering your average consumer doesn't care too much about games or HD video encoding, A64 X2s are still selling in droves, & will continue to.

Quad core lol...don't even get me started on how useless that presently is for the normal consumer.

I realize in time we'll all have our quads, but that is still a long way away for the general public.

Well except for the potential for cheap quads in August I don't see much for the enthusiasts or overclockers to get excited about. The increased cache on the lower end parts will be nice, but the FSB increase to 1333 means nothing to those of us that are already running 1600 or higher. It will be a nice performance boost for those that don't overclock, but for overclockers it's just Intel squeezing out the headroom on the lower end parts that we've already been taking advantage of.

The 4200+ X2 is only $100 right now, i can't seem to find an intel cpu close to that price and performance and i'm on a tight budget.

If you don't have enough money for a C2D, you should wait until you've saved up enough. No point in buying AMD right now, the e4400 will be 133$ and it should be out within the next couple of weeks, april 22 or 26th at the latest.

I think the 4400 and 4500 will be exciting for some folks because they have nice high multipliers for hardcore OC'ing.

The 6320 and 6420 will be the next mainstream 6xx0 series chips for enthusiasts starting in April and the extra cache certainly won't hurt (except maybe slightly in overclocking though that remains to be seen). If I understand c2d OC'ing correctly, the low multipliers on 63xx and 64xx chips mean you'd better have a board that can handle higher FSB speeds toward 500MHz if you want to push them up into the 3.5GHz range. With a 4xx0 chip it'll be easier to achieve that speed with less stress on the motherboard and other parts.

Also the 800MHz fsb on the 4xx0 chips should mean that the lower speed RAM used would also be cheaper, right? Or is the RAM and motherboard fsb speed independent of the CPU's fsb?

I'm going to either purchase an E4300 when it drops to $113, or an E6420. Most likely an E4300 because I'm cheap and plan on overclocking either one like crazy.

if you're building a rig soon, it would be good to get solid ram and a motherboard that is already able to handle quadcore core2quads, that way you can pick up an E4300/E4400 in a couple weeks nice and cheap and then upgrade to a quadcore chip in the Fall. :)

With the stock cooler I could benchmark and play any game @ 3200mhz with my quad. Using my current TT120 I can do the same at 3466mhz. I have benchmarks @ 3506mhz though, but never ran it for long at that speed.

Regardless, do anyone really need a C2D/C2Q @ more than 3000mhz? For benchmarks, sure... but for everyday use and gaming?

Personally, I am pretty much GPU limited using two 8800 GTX cards, with my quad at stock speeds.

Not trying to get into a debate or anything :)

Well just to make sure you're not getting confused, the E6850 is dual core.

The quad that'll be around $266 is the Q6600. :)

I can't wait for Q3
I don't see any reason why anyone would buy the E6850 over the Q6600
Sure all apps don't take advantage of quad core but its nice to have especially with games like Sup Com and others comin up

$183 is most likely the volume pricing for the chip in lots of 1,000.

What that means is after the initial price gouging by e-tailers to get the early adopters to pay $200 or more so they can make a good profit, eventually prices will drop as low as $183 for them. It's up to you to be patient and wait out the initial pricing surge that always happens (if you remember when the c2d conroes first came out it was the same story).

and Intel wants consumers to move to quadcore sooner since they have quadcore products available, cheaper, and so far outperforming what AMD can put out. This is part of their strategy.

The other thread on the E6420/E6320 said April 9 as a possible release date.. any verification anywhere? All I have left to order is memory and a CPU for my new system..

I would expect them available for pre-order this coming week (week of the 9th). Pricing though, that's another issue entirely. Often e-tailers will keep the prices up to make a profit off the early adopters.
