This thread reminds me of another thread posted a few years back on here about a super high overclock on a Phenom. We all know how that turned out with regular air cooling.

Although I allready have a i7 860 I think its terrific that AMD is selling 6 core CPUs for so little money. They also manange to reduce power draw with every stepping and now have implemented Turbo mode on a hardware level.

Keep it up AMD.

Of course LN helps you achieve major overclocks. Realistically it'll hit past 3.6ghz with ease. Just 4ghz is probably going to be AMD's golden number again.

In this thread, one of our members got a Thuban and seemed to have managed 4 - 4.2GHz with all six cores: 1055T

What's the point in releasing new thermal features if you don't intend to capitalize on them? The 4ghz wall has been broken on every x6 posted thus-far.

Uh...is that Vcore within spec? Is it something you can be safe with 24/7 on air?
That is why I said "seemed to have managed".

Regarding your query of safety, I don't think so, and I am not even sure what is the "real" safe voltage, as official "voltages" specification from the AMD website for Phenom II 965 (C3) only goes up to 1.4V, yet forum after forum, article after article, treats "1.5 - 1.55V" as safe for Deneb.

I guess. But even so, either AMD has implemented Cool N' Quiet directly on the cpu itself, or Gigabyte hasn't really found a way to totally disable it in the BIOS, because it still downclocks my 1055T to 800MHz at idle, with I think, 1.28vcore.

u also forget that in encoding / rendering HT actually improves performance.. :\

Except when it's the opposite and HT kills the performance eg numerous rendering setups (render node software/renderer, scene setup, format etc.)

Edit: Also in the power settings set the power sceme to High Performance...

Under the advanced power options you can tell windows whether to throttle the cpu or not. I forgot the exact name of the 2x options under the custom power settings...
