920's still a better deal at $199 imho.
My Microcenter just got in a shipment of 40 920's yesterday, so it doesn't look like they're planning to drop that stock soon.

I agree, but everybody seems to be creaming them over the 930 for some reason, even though it doesn't OC much if any better than 920 D0's.

The 930 may have one small advantage, having a native 21x multiplier means you can turn off Turbo completely and not run into issues where Turbo ramps your Core 0 to 22x on the 920.

Gosh, that's just what I'm doing with my 920...using the 21x multiplier, turbo turned off, and my cores never ramp up to 22x. :)

What are you talking about? 920 has a native 20x multiplier, Turbo increases it to 21x and in single threaded applications 22x.

930 has a native 21x multiplier.

Umm...Most of the major mobo brands allow raising the multiplier +1x from default.

That would be Turbo. Which also raises it to +2 in single threaded apps.

Right. What the other guy is trying to say is that some motherboards allow manually locking the turbo multiplier so it is always +1 and never +0 or +2.

Really? I thought motherboards can either turn Turbo on or off, not control the way the CPU handles the Turbo. Which motherboards can actually do this?

The guy above me saying he turned off Turbo while maintaining +1 does not seem plausible.

i think it's a better deal to buy it from tigerdirect for $255 shipped after bing cashback for those of us who get taxed near 10% in cali.

OR WAIT until the 8th at Microcenter when the 930 is $229. Ka-ching!

(sourced from MC insider).

oh?
HmmmMMMmm. I'll have all my parts in hand this weekend, can I wait a week with them all under my desk to see if that's true and return the 920 for the 930?
We'll see if I can take the pressure. :D

MC is pretty competitive for being a B&M. They price match + return/exchange service is nice. Makes many big online stores look pathetic considering the lower overhead that they have.

fuck you microcenter!!!!! ship this stuff damnit :(

You got no complaints with Frys nearby.

I've got a Microcenter about 40 minutes south of me here in Michigan, but the nearest Frys is Chicago, and no In-and-Out burgers for a few thousand miles.

Oh, and I've had to shovel about 8ft of snow this winter, too.

/Damn housing bubble collapse shot my plans to move to the southwest all to hell

i haven't been to frys in a while because the last few times i was there, all they would have on their "deals" were returned items. MC seems to have good deals on non-returned retail items.

can't complain about my weather though, but the SW was hit pretty good w/ the housing bubble fwiw too - i am in AZ, we were lucky and bought in 2003, those that bought in 05-07 paid about 200%+ compared to what we did

Perhaps true, but Frys always has decent MB/CPU combos at their B&Ms. MC has good boxed CPU prices, though, can't deny it... bought my i7 820 there for the build of my main PC in December, and just bought a Celeron E3300 to build a home server box.

Microcenter is the ONLY local place in the state that offers reasonable pricing on computer components, though... and with CompUSA gone, it's pretty much the only place I have a chance of finding some components on short notice.

I often wonder when I buy CPUs there, though, if Microcenter isn't getting these things from some sort of mob/black market deal, LOL.... their prices on some processors are just insanely low.
