OR WAIT until the 8th at Microcenter when the 930 is $229. Ka-ching!

(sourced from MC insider).

Picked one up from MC yesterday. They are good about giving a price difference if it goes lower within a week of purchase. So if it does go on sale on the 8th I'll take a trip down to the store for my $20 credit. Which will probably be spent before I leave the store, LOL!

So how's it compare to the OCed 920?
Inquiring minds want to know!

I haven't had a chance to overclock yet. By the time I got it installed, updated FW on my motherboard and SSD and installed Windows 7 I was pooped and it was 3am. But I will be testing overclocks tonight and seeing what the max OC is and where I want it to run on a daily basis. I can update later.

Really? How did your overclock go?
My overclock of what? My 920? I'm running it at 3.33GHz. What? Only 3.33GHz you say? Yeah... 3.33GHz @ 1.056v. Nice and cool temps.

I don't have a 930, but everything I've seen points to them being only better than the 920 that they have that +1 multiplier advantage. Other than that, the 930's are the exact same stepping (D0).

I'm not quite that lucky - its 10-15 in gas to get there and back for me, so I try to plan well.

I got a chance to play around with overclocking a little last night but ran into a problem with raising it above 200. I remember having this problem with my 920 and it was a setting on my DFI board. So right now I'm running at 175(3.6GHz) with a voltage of 1.2x. Temps are 40 at idle and prime drove them up to high 50's according to coretemp.

Not sure when I'll get around to trying to get it stable enough to run higher to run benchies because after all the trial and error I ended up reinstalling Windows.

Limit 1 per household will help you resist. :D

Nah, buy one, put in car, go back in, rinse repeat. If they refuse that, I can take a few friends with me.

I'm not gonna stop though, I don't NEED one since I have two other 1366 cpu's to mess with.

I had my sister pick me up one as she lives like 10 min from the MC in Boston, they gave her some shit for just buying it and nothing else because they take such a loss on it. Kept asking her whet she was building and if she needed anything else

212 after taxes for the 920

That's pretty much all I picked up when I bought mine a couple weeks ago too. I did grab a couple computer games too, but they were older "bargain shelf" ones for the kids.

Their sales people work on commission though - so don't read too much into it. They weren't hassling her about buying the CPU (they're not making a loss otherwise they wouldn't have been selling them @ $199 for the better part of the last year). They were just trying to get her to buy more to pad their commission.

Funny, I had no trouble at the same store. Granted I had some $5 canned air and a cheap OEM hard drive too... but still. They can't have huge margins on those.

Maybe she got a manager who actually knows something, I think I got a checkout drone. She seemed like she could care less about anything. :D
