Yep, I'm going to grab an E6600 at that price. The QE6600 will drop to $500 I believe as well. So that looks very attractive.

Actually taht is a Q6600...it doesn't have an "E" or "X"...it is not and Extreme model....Which may bean it doesn't have unlocked multipliers.

Hopefully better boards will be out as most have not been able to OC very highfsb on these chips. You are better off running higher multiplier and leaving system fsb in the range of 1066 to 1333...or 266fsb to 333fsb...

Wait and see if the xoen model X3210 has unlocked multis...it is a 2.13ghz model or basiaclly a Q6400

Either way, they have about 10 days to cut the prices. I'll have the money to purchase the parts I want, and buying everything but the CPU would be kinda depressing.

So, when is Q2 officially here? Is that the beginning of March or the end?? I assume Intel is on a calendar year in this respect? I am going tobe buying all my parts in about 1-2 weeks, so it looks like I am out of luck with these prices?!?!!? Bah!!

Q2 will be April 1st-June 30th.....Still about 70days away at LEAST....then ofcourse when it happens it may take a few weeks to work them into the market. Kinda like the oil market. Increases happen instataneous across the board but decreases gradually come in...LOL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

QFT.

Now that the E4300 is available (for a price) and the E4400 is around the corner, I just need some decently overclockable mATX boards for these chips.

As long as Q2 corresponds with my tax return ... that is all that matters. 😉 I am eagerly awaiting a new build, my rig is long in the tooth (and out of hard drive space). Thanks for the keen post.

Later,

not really.

They just need DELL and HP to keep taking on more AMD chips for desktop/laptop and increase sales in the 4-way Server space. AMD or Intel for that matter....don't make their money from Newegg, ZZF, or from sales of messageboard members. 😀

so do i..let us know when u find them mATX boards. all i need is 300-350MHz fsb.

So when does the price cut comes in? q2 or q1? - it is almost february already. I am ready to buy processor right now - was going to go with 6600 at $214 , but I wont wait wait till mid april for that (will then just go with OCed 6300)

I just got confirmation from the IRS, my refund should be arriving on 6 Feb, so I should be ordering a couple of days after that, say the 10th. While I budgeted for the current 6600 prices, it'd be nice to be either under budget, or have money left over for other parts.

The last major build I did, the fates were against me. All my major parts had major price drops within a month of me buying them.
