Ok, why market it as a Dual Core instead of a Core 2 Duo?
Core 2 Duo has 3mb cache or more. The names are different so the average Joe (the Plumber) will spend extra to get a "Core Duo" chip.
You're fimiliar with marketing right?
Except the early core 2 duos that had only 2MB of cache. (well, 4MB, but 2MB was disabled)
I originally had an e6300 and upgraded to an e5200.
e6300 was 2MB cache and 1.86ghz, e5200 started at like 2.5Ghz and has 2MB cache, but I overclocked the e5200 to 3.33ghz and the e6300 struggled to 2.6Ghz.
Also, the older 65nm core 2 duos had a performance degradation going to 64 bit, which the 45nm ones don't have.
