One of the reasons I considered Sony's Vue service is that I wouldn't have to pay for ESPN.

God damn rich welfare billionaires. Always looking for a handout from the public coffers. And the stupid public eats up the bullshit line about economic gain every fucking time.

Yup, then when the shiny new stadium is built the owners have even more leverage to fuck over taxpayers and to stuff the elected officials in their back pocket.

Professional sports performers will have to settle for $19,000,000 per year instead of $20,000,000.

Yeah, that's who's going to make less money- the people who already have plenty. Because that's how it's always worked in the past, right?

The only people who feel they HAVE to have cable are sports fans. There's lots of sports fans. Fortunately I am not one of them.

The reason this exists because America would pitch a fucking fit if it was the Ford Football League and teams were owned (at least in part) by corporations. Slap a Verizon logo on that Cowboys star and help subsidize the costs. But, American doesn't want that.

Did you know Bayern Munich, one of the largest and most popular football clubs in the world, sells season tickets for about 100 euros. That's right! How do they do this? Well, Audi owns 18% of the club, and the entire Bundesliga subsidies their ticket prices as a whole. But, we can't expect the entire model to be turned over when we have leagues filled with a bunch of single owners and no advertising branding. Soccer has no commercials during actual play. That is two 45+ minutes of uninterrupted play. They make money by selling advertising rights on the teams and the side lines.

But, that isn't a model we can follow in our leagues. We want parity and must have strict limits to what teams can spend. If the NFL was set up like soccer in Europe, the Cowboys would have every hall of fame quality player simply because they are the biggest.

I wonder what the industry (sports leagues) would do if no one watched their shit via electronic delivery and the only ones watching her the ones at the stadiums. How much of a hit would that cause on those franchises?

I would imagine the owners would lose big, the star players, etc.

Comcast this month is raising prices for internet service across the board. With bigger incentives than ever before for bundling TV or phone service with broadband internet. Many bundles are being discontinued, the tiers are being renamed, and offerings for new customers are being completely restructured. Those with bundled services will be seeing increased broadband speeds in many markets, while customers with internet-only subscriptions will remain at their current speed.

This is only the start of the shit hitting the fan.

Things are just going to change over time. It's similar to Cell phones IMO. It use to be you paid out the ass for voice service and text, and data was unlimited. Then Data became all people really used anymore so now that's the focus, and voice/text are unlimited and cheap. Cable will adapt. Data prices will eventually rise, and TV will become cheaper or free with your data bundle.

Soak in the cheaper internet while you can, pretty soon you'll be paying $100/m for it.

Then I'll change to a competitor. It's sad that I have to use Comcast locally for internet. Every 6 or 12 months I have to call them up to give me another "Special pricing" back down to something reasonable. Otherwise they shoot up to $60+ Fuck that.

This is why it's unfair competition when they can charge you more for internet when their TV service is suffering. TV is suffering because people are tired of your shit. So you fuck over your internet customers? Any REAL business would say "Well, we need to adapt to the changing culture. Let's bring out a streaming program that is cheaper and have people start to transition". But that's what a smart business would do....

Who are you going to change to? You don't really have a choice. It's either Charter or slow 2mb AT&T DSL for me. The AT&T DSL have to be free for me to take it. Even if it was free I'm not sure I would switch.

Probably AT&T Uverse - Which I'm not even sure what type of connection it is - but they are advertising speeds up to 18Mbps.

Not that I would joyfully do it, but I outright REFUSE to pay more than $50 for internet access. I'd switch to tethering with my phone. Fuck em.

Uverse is their fancy marketing name for plain DSL. Up to 18 Mbps. lol. I was lucky to get 1.5 Mbps. Which was perfectly fine during the AOL and Yahoo days when we weren't streaming videos. The whole point of people canceling cable/satellite TV is so they can internet stream instead. You can't have multiple streams without buffering with that slow speed.

Yeah, you were undoubtedly at the edge of the range for the solution, with them using the old copper phone lines from there. It is very limited max bandwidth.

I am close to the node, and they still had to give me bonded ADSL2+ for a 48mbps connection. I will be going back to brighthouse for internet when my agreement is up. As long as they are still unlimited, as ATT is 250GB capped. I have not received a overage warning, despite going over several times. However, when I drop their IPTV, I have little doubt they will crackdown on me over it.

Before I moved recently I had a 5mb down/ 2mb up connection, for $100. It was the only option, other than a verizon hotspot. No landline, not even dsl.

Even now the second option where I live is 3mb at&t dsl. So cable it is.
