I was at a huge lambda phi epsilon party last night and then the cops came... Took a while to come into the main room but once they did, probably everyone looked at them.. wow... bad choice because right then they took a picture and I saw the flash.

I looked away as they took like 10 more pics... WTF is this?

I mean what are they going to do? All they can pretty much do is break the party up for noise violation. It's not like I was doing drugs or even drinking. What does the picture prove?

They're going to email them to yours and everyone else's parents.

Just a scare tactic. Maybe get it printed in the paper, but I doubt they can even do that without your consent.

They keep a scrapbook back at the station and pull it out for a laugh when they feel blue.

Now you are on their Big List of Bad People, along with pot smokers, ravers, and black people. Prepare to be persecuted.

even if it's legal that they took pictures, which I'm sure it is (it's like coming to a party yourself and taking pictures).... the question is whether it's legal for them to do anything with it...

you can't prove anyone was drinking because there was no alcohol that I could see (I believe they hid the alcohol in a few rooms since it's illegal to serve alcohol at frat parties unless they get a permit for the party) and hell I wasn't drinking, nor did I even drink.

I'm pretty sure it's fine once they have a noise complaint or something, so they can break up the party.. we had like 300+ people in the house, and there's like 2 layers of lambda guys regulating people in... i'm pretty sure the cops were legally able to come in at that point.

No. Unless it's a matter of life-and-death, the police are NOT allowed to enter the premises unless they have a warrant.

Well I believe after someone got shot 30 times wtih a BB gun 2 years ago, and they banned alcohol for a year or so, they then re-allowed alcohol but with major restrictions...

I believe alcohol can't be served until they do "alcohol orientations" for frat members, and nor can it be served at parties w/ more than 100 people unless its a registered frat party with whatever central greek managing organization on campus... just a lot of restrictions.. not that alcohol is banned, but just a lot of lame strings...

you forget the fact of the matter, did you even know if they had a warrant or not? don't get me wrong, some cops will do anything or nothing with the time they have to serve; however, point being, if you did or didn't see the warrant, at this moment of time they have every right according to policing laws to have taken pictures.

it sounds like you're mad becuase you feel that the cops were violating your rights? don't forget that undercover cops and and stealth snitchers (could be your best friend) exist to help this kind of stuff happen.

ofcourse parents will usually say that parties with obnoxious music (reading above) is absurd and that officials should be able to break up parties anyway they can. in my view, I'd say the cops were doing it for fun, or they are investigating something they believe to be unsafe to the good of public society within their district.

why were you at the party? having a good time, why not? don't get caught with your pants down, assuming that because you could disrupt neigbors with a nice party, that everyone else will agree with having the right not to let cops into an area where uncivil practices are being held. above all, bad things happen after 11pm.

my advice, is that if cops show up at a party, don't go back to the area unless you have to. the law has no nationality, it is controlled by people who have degrees and knowledge beyond the average civilian.

I showed up at the party because a few friends dragged me there. It's one of those huge frat parties that all those first years go to. Of course I'm not that young anymore, and it's been a while since I've walked frat row to find aparty, so I said sure why not for the night. I had no alcohol that night because I wasn't in the mood, so I was just I' there to dance around (there were a LOT of hot girls).

I'm not particularly pissed about the cops breaking it up or taking pics. I'm just worried about what MIGHT happen with the pictures..... I've heard about employers searching on facebook and myspace for incriminating photos, and while the cops can't say I was doing anything illegal, I was thinking along those lines with such photos.

I really don't know how warrants + noisy parties work, but I've been to at least 4 -5 parties where the cops broke it up. All these parties are usually like apartment parties where there are 40 ppl inside drinking with music blasting. It's usually just them telling us to leave, but no one's ever gotten a citation or anything even though the person who owns the apartment wasn't even 21.

This is the first frat party that I stayed long enough at to see it get broken up by cops, and so I don't know how it really works w/ warrants or what not. But to get into these frat parties, there's usually people blocking the driveway to regulate people in, and then another few people guarding the door (they even check student IDs and what not to make sure you aren't a cop).... maybe some undercover cop got in?

probably would get introuble for that... maybe they would think im a terrorist or something ><

last year in physics we had to build a telescope for the lens lab and it involved mounting two lenses on a sliding rail over a meter long. the rail was steel/aluminum or whatever but was pretty heavy so i had to carry it on my shoulder to test it out.. looked like i had a bazooka or something or maybe a rifle, but yea... i remember the cops asked what the hell i was doing because we had to go outside and test it out, so a lot of us went down to the street so we could look at a few blocks away...
