From what I see, EVERYONE in that video is wrong.

The cops were abusive, yet remarkably ineffective. Yes, they beat the guy but they had no skills or strength to simply subdue him. It was a joke to watch them struggle with him.

The guy was completely non-compliant from the start, but that didn't earn him a beating like that. It's not his fault that the cops were aggravated pussies and physically unable to simply throw him to the ground and cuff him. Still, the guy was resisting and not complying.

Everyone is in this video is wrong and just so damn pathetic.

Seriously pathetic...

Yep. I go to an American Kenpo school, and work out with a number of officers from the DFW area, and can tell you that a well-trained close-combat course would be advisable for engagements such as this. It's laughably easy to yank someone, flip them on their chest, and put both hands together for cuffing. The fact that these two clowns couldn't accomplish this in a reasonable manner is inexcusable. This was no 6'6" 280lb beast hopped up on PCP, he was simply a punk asshole who needed to get cuffed and carted in double-time.

THANKFULLY, all of the officers I personally know would have owned this fool like Sally Struthers owns a chocolate brownie.

Yep that is rule for most if not all forces. If the person does not sign the ticket you arrest them. You don't make the matter worse and then go over board like these cops. My grandfather was a cop and he did that a couple times. The kid was a idiot but should have never got to this let alone them saying he hit them with a closed fist.

That said, you CANNOT chose to disregard or defy an officer's instructions. This will never go well, and if you continue to non-comply, it will end badly for you.

Cops are TAUGHT to take control of a situation, and this is for everyone's safety, including their own. They WILL err on the side of abruptness, especially if YOU don't comply with their instructions.

The saying goes like this: On the scene, the law IS what the officer says it is. Comply. The courts are there after the fact for you to dispute an officer's actions in a safe for all environment.

I have no particular love for these two sub-standard jamoke's in uniform, but it is all to easy for you and I to sit back in the safety of our on-line experience and judge.

On the scene, in real life, an officer never really knows what and whom he's dealing with, and WILL assume the worst, especially if you even begin down the non-compliance route. Once a civilian goes off the reservation, you, as the officer, just never know what else they will do, but you can assume that it could be deadly and that, if it's going to happen, it WILL happen quickly.

It's a shame that guy didn't comply. It's a shame that guy thought he had the option not to comply. In a perfect world, the officers could have handled that situation better. But this is not a perfect world, and if you saw what many urban officers see every day, you'd better understand that.

And that's why they should have just put him on the ground and cuffed him immediately.

You don't stand there and hit an unarmed guy in the head with a baton.

Yeah, those two were not only unprofessional, but incompetent. Still, subduing someone IRL is not necessarily as easy and simple as vid game raised kiddies tend to think it is. Otoh, these guys should have had sufficent training which should have kicked in. They handled this case in a sub-standard manner, imho.

PG County cops have a long and proud history of brutality and playing judge and jury. Nothing they do surprises me. This is the same force involved in the cluster fuck at a mayors house where they killed his 2 dogs.

yup, it's easy to do that to a guy who was holding/grabbing onto his car like his life is depending on it.

Not to mention they were on a freeway with traffic moving in both directions.

Unlike a sparring session in a dojo, cops bring dangerous toys(guns, tasers, oc spray, baton, etc.) to the fight. so they have to guard their toys at all times while defending themselves otherwise the suspect is going to grab it

yepper, a street fight = sparring in a dojo

It sure is as a matter of fact, Savoyboy

A well-trained close-combat specialist can take you down like a sack of moldy potatoes with no drama at all. It's laughably easy, unless your subject is both prepared and trained to your standards, with the requisite physical strength and situational advantages needed to present a challenge.

I didn't see the article address whether the force was justified. Obviously the guy was being a dick and giving them a hard time, he obviously doesn't understand how traffic stops work here.

I imagine I'm going to screw up if I get pulled over in Mexico and don't know that I'm supposed to tell the officer that it isn't necessary and slip him a few pesos.

But assaulting an officer is a damn serious charge. Got to assume that has all kinds of ramifications in your life, and will likely fuck up your employment for life. Its supposed to be a serious charge because its a serious offence.

Writing this up like they did was fucked up.

Read the thread's title..

What the hell exactly does the thread title have to do with what I said or what the article said? I'm not responsible for everything the OP says in any thread, but you came in here swing your defensive stick all around at everyone.

Yes they guy was a douche, yes he was going to jail after he gave them a hard time, yes they failed to take him down properly and it appears from the video and the article that they falsified their report and if this is true it is a serious offense in my eyes.

Unfortunately the public perception based on what seems to be SOP is that no matter how legit the charge the bad cops get off with a slap on the wrist at the most.

IF the fact of the matter is that they lied about him coming out of the car swinging, what do you think should happen?

Forgot to add, but this has long, long, long been true and known, sorry to say. Back when I was a PI, they had this rep . . . blacks especially got manhandled by the good ol' boys with distressing AND BEYOND OBVIOUS regularity.

Makes me laugh when I hear OT kiddies and P&N ideologues proclaim us an instantly post-racist society.

Not on the street, 'yo. ;)

That said is there more to the video? How is that police brutality? The guy wasnt complying with the cops orders to lie on the ground and was resisting arrest.

clearly he doesn't think the rules applied to him probably why he was pulled over in the first place. He didn't want to goto jail because he is going to get deported. Again because he is here illegally and the rules don't apply to him.

Do you read at all? It says he is a legal citizen.
