Cop pulled me over for failing to stop for school bus

I'm driving down the road on a pretty major street (45MPH).
There's a median, fairly tall bushes, seperating the direction of traffic
There's a cop beside me that slams on his brakes right when we get to an intersection.
I'm already going throught the intersection, and look around to see if a car ran a red light or something. I notice a bus with its stop sign out across the median, but think
"You don't have to stop if they're across a median", plus I was already in the middle of the intersection, too late to stop.

A block down the road, the cop pulls me over.

He walks up to my car, doesn't even ask for my license,
just pretty much yells "Do you know it's wreckless driving to not stop for an unloading bus!!?!?"
Me: ummm ...
Him: Did you see that bus?
Me: I saw it when I was half way out in the intersection. I didn't see it before
because it was three lanes over on the other side of the bushes. I thought
you didn't have to stop for school buses across medians
Him: There was a break in the median in front of the bus so you were supposed to stop.
It doesn't matter if the bus was 10 lanes over, if there's no median, you stop, understand?
Me: (thinking, "umm .. there was a median") Yes sir, OK
Him: Have a nice day (walks back to car)

Was this cop right or strectching the law a bit? I thought a median road
was a median road, unless the median completely dissapears.

Here's DMV rules on stopping for buses (scroll up a bit) , but it doesn't address this situation specifically.

Also, as always, here's a diagram of the scene

From your link:

"You do not have to stop, however, if you are traveling in the opposite direction on roadways separated by a physical barrier or unpaved median area."

Yeah. I know.

But the cop said "There was no median in front of the bus"

Yeah, there was an intersection!

There was no median where there is a break in the median. That was an intersection. Yes you have to stop.

I'd fight that if I were you.

He didn't give me a ticket.

NEver even saw my license, just yelled me me
and told me to go on.

Then why does this thread even exist?

Fight what? He didn't give him a ticket.

I think the cop was being nice for not giving the OP a ticket for something the officer believes is a ticketable offense.

BTW, after looking at the diagram I think the cop was right and the OP was wrong. If the bus stopped at an intersection, there are usually crosswalks there. Therefore you had to stop for the bus. The median was interrupted by the intersection.

Why the hell would kids be crossing a street when there are 4 lanes of traffic, a 4 foot median, and no crosswalk?

He may have left the crosswalk out. If he did, that changes things.

Great diagram, I love the GTA cars. You were in the right, don't worry.

No, he wasn't. The bus stopped at an intersection where people can cross the road. The people exiting the bus have the right of way, and they're able to cross at that crosswalk.
