wtf are you talking about. It's clearly a murder. There's no controversy about it being a murder. All the physical evidence points to murder. Even if the cops were stupid enough to think they could get away with it, the physical evidence that would come out during the autopsy - he was shot repeatedly in the back - would lead to murder charges.

People apparently think that without the video, the police would have gotten away with it, because, uh, Ferguson or something. I disagree. If there had been video at Ferguson, it wouldn't have made the news.

Of course you would disagree. You have an agenda and a bias which is preventing you from understanding why this case is such a big deal.

Fortunately there are a lot of other people who aren't letting their bias affect their judgment.

The reason why it is a big deal is because of the already-saturated racial tensions regarding law enforcement. The video is difficult to argue with. The cop was not defending himself. Normally bullets in the back are summarily classifed as an assault instead of resulting from self defense. There are rare cases like this that walk the line. Because it looked like the perp was trying to turn the handgun he had on the officer while fleaing, so this was justified. Stark difference with this SC shooting.

It was just pointed out to me that now that the dash cam video is available (with sound!) you can hear the music in the car when he got out to shoot the guy. It was 'What it's like' by Everlast. Here's some of the lyrics:

We've all seen a man at the liquor store beggin' for your change
The hair on his face is dirty, dread-locked, and full of mange
He asks a man for what he could spare, with shame in his eyes
"Get a job, you fucking slob, " is all he replies
God forbid, you ever had to walk a mile in his shoes
'Cause then you really might know what it's like to sing the blues

Then you really might know what it's like
Then you really might know what it's like
Then you really might know what it's like
Then you really might know what it's like

Music masks some of the conversation. Cops should have to turn off radio when working a stop.

The Taser is well behind Slager.

I don't think that's a leaf. Seems strange to have one and only one leaf in the middle of the grass. Most likely a taser or cell phone.

Doesn't look like a leaf. Looks like a flip phone, but the other lump doesn't really look like a taser either. It looks like a blurry box lol.

The thing that strikes me most about this is not the killing itself. Obviously nobody is going to defend that.

What I can't help but think is why would anyone want to do that job? Why would you consistently expose yourself to situations where the best possible outcome is nobody dies, and the worst possible outcome (if you make the wrong decision, as this guy clearly did) is something beyond an entire nation wanting to see you hang. I don't think anybody would argue that these guys (Slager and Darren Wilson being the two I'm thinking of) left for work in the morning with the intent to kill anyone. I've seen nothing that makes me think Darren Wilson should have been charged with anything, but a big chunk of the nation wishes the same fate for both of these men.

All that for shit pay and nobody you interact with on a daily basis being happy to see you.

I know more than a couple cops who make well over $100k. Most of the work is boring and beyond safe.

Its these special cops that get in situations like this. Keep in mind that at no time was the cop's life at risk. Its actually pretty damn rare that a cop's life is in danger.

A couple cops that make over $100k combined? lol

Where is this at and what position do they hold?
