CoolMax 500W PSU free AR from Buy.com

Sure the PSU may be free (after rebate), but how much might it cost to replace your motherboard, CPU and/or video card. I bought a "cheap" off-brand PSU and it died in less than 4 months. And the replacement (a second "inexpensive" PSU) fried my motherboard. In all these "Cheap PSU' cost me in excess of $200 dollars (new MOBO, plus the cost of both cheap PSUs). I paid about 70 for an Antec PSU and will never go back. (my two cents)

That's a little harsh, don't ya think?
HUH??? What I think is "harsh" is the TREATMENT of those that POST the deals!!

Let's recap:

>>Maybe I should delete my post.
*nods head in agreement*

This is a pretty crappy PSU from reviews.

Hence the purpose of my statement! No, I don't it's harsh ONE BIT. Someone takes the time to post a deal thinking of others, and it's slammed. No good deed goes unpunished.

I can't believe you're getting up in arms about a few comments that claim this isn't a good deal. It's not like anyone is getting personal. But you would rather make sure everyone protects your feelings (which were unjustifiably hurt) than have others help consumers make an educated decision?

You yourself said it was a POS!

Hilarity! 😛

Thanks for the post, computer. But you're taking it all too hard. While I have seen many many threads in many many places decrying and mocking the OP for trying to help people, that isn't what happened here. It's just a crappy free PSU, and everyone's being pretty straightforward about that. You, indeed, started the macking on yourself. So- chin up, thanks for the post, and roll with it, baby!

It's call respect, perhaps you should look into it. Someone thinks of fellow forum members and posts somethings that F.A.R., should at least receive some.

FWIW, I tested the one I got and it looks fine. No noise, 3.28-3.32v, 5.026v, and 12.099-12.160v. Better 3.3v than my damn Silverstone ST60F.

The power supply is ok. The rebate came fast in my case. I do think its on the noisy side, but if that doesn't bother you then its worth the investment.

Feedback from the egg:
"Pros: Actually got the rebate that took a lawyer to fill out. Power supply is working well in a budget system I have."

A lawyer? For a $30 rebate? WTF goes on in peoples' minds?

@OP: you said looks like a POS, maybe I should delete the post... LONG before everybody else said it was a POS themselves. Who would give a rats @ss what a bunch of folks on the internet think about you anyway? We post to warn people that it's not a great deal, and they might damage their computer with a bad PSU.

It's an unusual rebate is all I noticed. First, they won't accept it unless you have a reg# which you get from their website, but what's really stupid is you have to send them a self-addressed stamped envelope with the rebate form! "A self addressed stamped envelope with your own return address and rebate registration number".

Its good that you posted it. Everyone slams the ultra here too and I know a few that are working great. People are tough on P/S deals here. If it has problems then we hash it out, in public, to save someone. A deal should help to save money on a product or the even better deal of skipping a bad or just innapropriate product. Either way saves money and time. Keep posting. Someone who read this either jumped on the deal or was going to and now skipped it. Good work.

That was well put.

At free, even if one is bad you still get a working fan out of it, several Molex connectors, wiring, a heatsink, and whatever semiconductor parts would still be good. I'm always scavenging parts from dead PSU's.

no disrespect intended to you op 🙂

got my PS on Saturday....filled out rebate form EXACTLY as required.... I almost labled the envelope myself, but on the rebate form you have to cutout and use theirs or it wont be processed...

I photocopied everthing....rebate form (with upc and s/n attached), receipt (with date and price circled), and both envelopes.

I always like it when a company says my form was filled out incorrectly....since I have hi-rez scans I can quickly debate the matter. 🙂
