Coolest / rarest cars you've ever seen?

We have a lot of car fans here, what are some of the cars you've had the privilege to witness in person?

Some of the ones I've seen :

Porsche 959, saw it in the early '90s at the Crescent hotel in Dallas. It was silver, parked like it was any other ordinary car. This remains the only 959 I've ever seen, and it makes me a little sad, as it's one of my all-time faves for being so far ahead of it's time.

F40 / F50, I see one of these once every year or two, they seem to be invariably red 🙂 My brother has a pic of Mark Cuban driving his F50 in Oak Lawn.

The last surviving fully intact / original Ford RS200 Evolution Spec-B rally car. This was at RUF, and such a wild looking creature. The turbo was as big as a small engine, the tires were epic, and it just looked strangely beastly. At the time I had no idea of the brain-melting performance the thing was capable of, but I looked up details later and holy shit on a popsicle stick those suckers were fast.

Late-50's Mercedes 300SL Gullwing Coupe. Very elegant and unique vehicle, surprisingly difficult to drive.

Vector W8, saw it parked at ID's mesquite building in the late '90s. Just bizarre, it looks like the entire decade of the '80s on super-steroids. I took some 35mm pics of it, but they came out pretty crappy. I waited around for about an hour hoping the owner would come out and start it up, but eventually I had to leave.

Reventon, Enzo, and CTR3. The beauty of working down the street from RUF USA 🙂 These were parked together for a photo shoot, I have some crappy cell phone pics that I will see about posting, but wow what a set of amazing cars. Three utterly different design philosophies and three ultra-low-production halo cars at once. The only thing that could beat this would be to add a Veyron to the mix.

With RUF down the street, most Porsche models, even the awesome Carrera GT, have become a commonplace sight, outside of the '50s models and the 959 of course.

Anyway .. please share 🙂

McLaren F1, saw it from a foot away at the Bingo Sports showroom in Tokyo. There were a bunch of various Ferraris there too, but somehow they just paled in comparison. 🙂

94 ZR-1 corvette, original COPOCO camaros ZL-1 cars. lots of original Berger cars. a 1934 hupmobile, was one of the coolest street rods i have seen. the Tucker, boat tail studibakers, duesnburgs, almost had a 1915 ,the engine was very neat, valve in head but all the valve train was exposed and had grease cups to keep it lubed up. looked really cool when running.

of course the enzo, f430, S7, etc...

There is a Nissan GT-R that I've seen stalking around Hershey/Hummelstown a couple of times when I'm on-site with the client. Otherwise "just" the early 1990s ZR-1 Corvette that my dad's cousin owned and gave me a ride in. Now that was a cool car.

If you're in the Seattle area and want to buy one, they can be had for rather reasonable amounts of money now:

I watched the "Great Race" roll into my town, half the cars had 30" rims...

...wooden 30" rims. Billet, mags, and spinners hadn't been invented yet when these were made. The cars were awesome, they had ground clearance like a hard core offroader because the roads were barely roads. These things were completely different machines than cars even just 30 years later.

Maserati MC-12, there are only 50 in the entire world.

Yes, I did see it in person and I did see and hear it being driven too.

Edit-I had a crappy cell phone picture of it but I'm not sure if I still have it or if I deleted it.

It looked exactly like this.

Too many to mention. Highlights would be F40 & Veyron.

I work in a town with one of the largest Ferrari dealerships in the world so you get to see some cool stuff. I didn't see it, but a work colleague saw Flemke's Mclaren F1 at the Egham Shell Garage and had a chat with him. Same town, many hot cars. The town over was the site of the first Veyron crash (Between Chertsey and Staines), so if you want to see metal and maybe check out Runnyemead/Windsor, come to Egham, It's got cars!

Some chick on campus had a R8, wrecked it if memory serves me correct. I saw a GT-R in a dealership if that counts.

I have seen a 2006 Saabaru manual. Talked to an owner for a while - he said it is a nice car but a bit too small. Only about 100 of them were made in manual.

Disclaimer: I live in Irvine, California, on the border of Newport Beach. Keep in mind some of this stuff is so commonplace it doesn't phase me anymore.

2 Veyrons (blue one and a red one)
Countless murcealago convertibles and coupes
Lambo Reventon
Porsche 959
Ford GTX1
Ford GT
Porsche GT3, GT2, GT3RS (almost everyday)
F430, F360, California, F40, 959
Mclaren F1
Merc SLR
BMW M1
Alpina Z8 convertible
Batmobile ( No joke, pictures on my blackberry for later)
Fast and Furious show cars on flatbed
Etc else.

My parents live right next to Hyundai USA headquarters so i've seen the Genesis sedan/coupe/Equuis/Chairman (I think, definetly KDM market car) as well as a Genesis sedan with blacked out rims and camo with dual exhaust tips and a much louder grumble than normal.

Rare does not mean exotic or fast. any one seen anything that is actually interesting besides cars that are really expensive?

Back in the mid 80's, I saw a 1963 Corvette split window coupe driving down hwy 101, south out of San Francisco. I was stationed there, and my buddy and I were just out for a cruise one day.

Damn thing had a for sale sign in the back window. Got the driver's attention, signaled him to roll down his window, and asked how much. $12 thousand, and that thing was cherry!

To this day, I kick myself for not finding a way to buy that car. **SIGH**

Other than that, I once saw a Lamborghini Countach (sp?) driving down I-880 (old I-17) in the Oakland, CA area. Dude was doing 55 in the slow lane.......and was still the envy of every guy on the highway that day!! 😉

you should visit the universal salvage yard at doncaster. they have a separate building for high-end cars.

I saw one of those along with every other year Vette between the first year of production until the early 1970s in a private collection last November.

Here's one of the pics I took of the split window Corvette.

Believe it or not, I've seen quite a few cool/rare cars in Philly. What I can remember:

- Ferrari F430 Spider
- Maserati GranTurismo
- Maserati Quattroporte
- Bentley Continental Flying Spur
- Lamborghini Diablo
- Dodge Viper SRT-10

Some of these (like the Bentley and the Maseratis) I've seen multiple times.

Actually, now that I come to think of it, the cars at Goodman Racing are probably pretty rare.

Off the top of my head they have the following in the back:

Original Shelby Cobra
Devin SS (The blue car in this photo: http://www.supercars.net/carpics/600/1958_Devin_SS1.jpg )
Ferrari 512 (the race version, not the Testarossa, magnesium racing wheels are LIGHT)
Early Greenwood Corvette
Several other old Corvettes

I'm sure that I'm forgetting a few here, but it's always cool to take a walk around the warehouse when I have my 951 in for a service.
