Around here, those cars are only ever seen driving around with Herba Life vinyl wrap ads.
Perfect for you. Now, grow a pair and buy a truck. Girls won't be embarrassed by it like they would your fiat 500.

Shit, you're almost in the South and almost from here so .... Get er done, you panty waist.

Naw, he doens't need a GTI. Just go for it and get a Type R. All wheel drive and 300 HP.

I've mentioned it a few times already that while I generally prefer Honda and wanted to get into one of those civics again, I can't do it while they continue to employ 16 year-olds to style those repulsive cars. ....I also don't like the constant, loud farts from the Type R (out of my budget anyway...though I guess you can actually find decent used ones). I imagine those cars probably only look good in video games or loud, rainy, low-light movies that induce seizures.

....Oh so I did take a new SE with the DSG out for a spin today. Because you know, the dealership just happened to be next to the kitchen counter distributors/installers that I was visiting. These things happen. And I thought it was great. Not much of a test drive on any kind of fun streets and the ride was a bit tighter than I expected. I switched between normal and sport (this one didn't have DCC so I don't think "comfort" was available?) but still more pleasant than my Mazda3 on the potholes that we call "roads" around here. ....but I didn't instantly fall in love with the thing, which is good. But I want to drive one again, with the cloth seats this time.

The Civic Type R doesn't have all wheel drive.

It's kind of confusing because he's directly responding to a Civic comment, but I suspect that since he mentions the GTI and to "go for it," he's referring to the Golf R...even though "Type R" pretty much means the Civic. The Golf R puts about 290hp this year and has sequential 4WD.

I mean...yeah I'd do that but ~$37-42k around here is a different tier than the ~now $24,900-27k prices that I am seeing for new 2019 SEs That's the thing--the dealers around here are pricing them new at the 1-2 year depreciation value, hah. Guy I talked today says that it's without destination (as I assumed) and some requirements like VW financing (also assumed)...but he also mentioned that if you go through VW, there is no early payoff penalty. Which is nice.

excessive and unsolicited character development:

So yeah, the Golf R would actually happen if I learn that I will be dead in a year or so (always possible) and I just decide to say fuck it, cash out the funds that make up my general savings, and just buy one....OK, in that situation I'd actually be looking at an RS3 instead or something even fancier.
Obviously I wouldn't spend all the money on that (family would get a nice life insurance policy, retirement, house and such anyway), but maybe a small down payment with financing that I know I can't really afford....so that I can just spend more on real vacations and driving that car around town....of course until I drive it straight off a cliff before whatever is coming after me gets here (in a very accidenty way, obviously).

Yea, I meant the Golf R. Seems like 300 HP in a FWD car like the Civic would give horrible torque steer, but I read a road test of one and they said it was fine. No matter how well it drives though, I just cant live with the Boy Racer styling of the Civic.

This. I've even tried to convince myself that I can deal with because I really would rather stick with Honda, but I can't do it. It's just so awful to look at. Some dude drives one up and down the avenue near my house and it sounds ridiculous on top of everything else...pretty sure h'e got an aftermarket exhaust, though, but they're pretty loud anyway, aren't they?

The GTI I drove today was pretty tame on the noise department, but it definitely wakes up a bit when you put the DSG into manual mode...though I do believe that is piped-in engine noise mostly. I know it pops a bit when you shift, but it's barely audible in regular driving with the radio on pretty low.

I have a 2018 Si and my friend just bought a 2019 GTI Rabbit. He's mad the Si coupe styling looks much better in person than he wanted it to, and he's mad the Si is super enjoyable to drive all around. I think he wanted it to be terrible to justify his irrational dislike for Honda.

I'm mad the GTI exhaust sounds much louder and better than the Si - the Si is very quiet with the OEM exhaust, and it also sounds like a 4 cylinder Honda. The Si feels far more nimble and playful for handling than the GTI, but clearly lacks the punch.

I wish....so that is the dude's R from the Doug video? I did see an R in the Target Parking lot the other day. If I were in that price bracket, it would be a different internal debate, but I'm just not.

Or will he ship it to the east coast for a total price of ~25-29k? I'd definitely jump on that. :D Hell, I'd be willing to go out there and drive it back myself for that price. I did it once in my Mazda3, and wouldn't mind doing it again--that one still needs a break-in, it seems.

Seriously impressive price for a "used" R though. damn. Also--electronic dashboard? I thought those were euro-only, or does the R get them in the US because those are still made in Germany? Damn.

Apparently VW has been selling some "zero series" cars through certified used channels. There was a guy who bought a 2016 Golf R with only ~9k miles on it for dirt cheap, only to find out that it wasn't DoT certified because it wasn't from street-legal production run. The car had been used by some auto journalists and had . . . modifications. In any case, it wasn't street-legal.

So if you see an improbably-cheap R for sale with some non-standard equipment, you may want to check the VIN very carefully before buying that car. There were some CCs and other cars also sold in this way.

Heh, sounds about right. There are quite a few Si around here and I do find myself walking up them and lingering a bit when I see one, just to make sure. I don't think they are as insane as the Type R, of course, but still a bit too boxy in the rear parts where I don't want it to be too boxy...but even so, they look a bit better than the newer Accords with that wide diabetes bottom on the lower rear bumper. I only noticed that recently when I was sitting at a light behind one.

If you haven't driven one, I highly suggest it. Before I bought mine or even considered looking at one I was looking at the (used) Genesis Coupe, Fiesta and Focus ST, BRZ, WRX, Miata RF, and some others but after looking at and driving all of them I didn't find anything calling my name.

I actually went and looked at an Si out of defeat for all my preferred options were a bust. It turned out to be everything I wanted out of the driving experience, and more. At that point, my reservations about the appearance or the boy racer/ricer culture were made irrelevant.

The styling will continue to grow on you.

Now I just want an intake so I can hear the turbo noise. ;)

So, look out for crazy ninety year-old chaps and their 600hp Rs?

lol wuh...

....

hmm, ~607bhp

that's an irresponsible amount of power for a wagon
It can be specified with a power upgrade by Audi’s racing partner, the tuner Abt Sportsline, which jacks maximum power to 705 horsepower and torque to 649 lb-ft. Top speed rises from 190 to 200 mph.
:p
