No just buy one - I'll pick it up when your wife kills you for spending all that money.

Apple 30" display is crazy ill. You want that sexy bad boy. You want it to spank your ass and suck your nipples.

If you buy it, I won't have one and it will make me an unhappy and jealous man. Just think of the guilt you'll feel. It's not worth it.

I think you should get it, but only if you buy a powermac to go with it. Apple hardware deserves to be united with its brethren.

I vote for the two 2405fpws if you have that kind of money to spend. I don't know how the 30" Apple scales but I don't think your 7800GT will be very playable at it's native res, unless all you play is Quake 2 or Centipede.

give me some reasons not to buy it!

*Your current displays match your rig well.
*Your rig will struggle to deliver playable framerates at native resolution.
*Its not a great price/value.

I'm sure you can come up with plenty more on your own. I'd sure like to have one myself however :)

Okay, here's a convince:
It's expensive, and it will drain on your computer. Your GT might not even be able to game on resolutions that high. And if so, you'll have to upgrade very 2 months!

Stay with a 24" CRT. A good one. Or if you don't have the space, a 24" 2405FPW.

cant send any of that money my way can ya? no? ohwell worth a shot...

i've read some bits about the 23" version... and a few bits about the 30" version. seems both have some problems with ghosting, and got very negative scores on the blacks, stating there pretty light still. that, and its got a massive native resolution. of 2560 x 1600.. your GT will barely pull any games on that. on the anandtech review of the 512 GTX, the gt manages 27 fps at 2048x1536, without AA.

also, THG had this to say on the 23" model:

"Forget gaming, too. If you're a fan of RTS or World of Warcraft, the Apple Cinema might do for you. But if you like a steady diet of blowing bad guys away, you'd better look elsewhere. This screen was playable, but remanence was very perceptible." http://graphics.tomshardware.com/display/20050830/pro_lcd-04.html

cant imagine it beeing much better at 30". on the plus side though, it sure is a beauty to look at.

Here's another reason for you: Dell 3007FPW, should be available next month.

You can use it as a roof for your shelter when you loose your money for spending so much of it on crap we never really need.

I can assure you this isn't an LCD TV. I've seen the Dell monitor matrix and the 3007 is supposed to ship in Dec, followed by the 2407 and 2007 in Feb/Mar. Now you know why your seeing 2405s thrown in with dell pcs for $1100 combo deals. They're getting replaced...

i didnt really ask for advice on how to spend the money. im asking what you guys think about the display.

i love my current monitors, but the 30" is flipping huge and nice looking. its so much real estate.

i want something with really good resolution, so wouldnt buying a TV defeat the purpose? does that 37" inch TV look as good as the cinema display as a computer monitor? i already have a 42" plasma so i dont need another TV. i want a monitor and it will only be used as that.

im sure it will play games just fine as long as i dont have 16xAA and all the other goodies. at that resolution im sure it will be a tad choppy but still playable. i might get a 7800GTX or the X1800XT if the 7800GT cant drive it.

any other thoughts?

oh and the 3007FPW, any idea how it will compare to the cinema in terms of price and performance?
