"Convert or die!" What would you do?

So says ISIS in Northern Iraq.

This question applies to all people here including non-religious people who do not believe in God. Well, all people except for any Sunni Muslims here (go to hell!) :)

So would you be a martyr for your faith?

Would you convert and accept Islam?

Would you convert then convert back to your previous religion when the time is right and safe?

If you are an Atheist would you lie that you are of a certain religion then convert but secretly you will be living the lie until its safe.

As an Atheist would you say that you are non religious and probably get a bullet in the head on the spot?

I saw something today one guy converted and they then cut his head off.

It's sadly a no win situation there at the moment I think.

Well, I read about this and I don't want to make light of the life-or-death situations that these people are faced with, so I hope that I comments don't reflect that.

To me, it depends on "faith". For a Christian, it really depends on how much faith you have in the God you worship. For an atheist, it depends on how much faith you have in your fellow man that his humanity and empathy would prevail over his hatred.

People easily say from the warmth and safety of their living rooms what they'd do if faced with a choice that will determine their ultimate fate -- but pressure situations are more telling and reveal more about whatever convictions one claims to have.

To answer your question, I hope that I'd stand firm in my faith and not convert, but these things tend to catch us by surprise at times, so we better prepare to make a choice before hand.

I couldn't honestly say. I would like to say I would convert but not really convert - but then again - if they catch me on certain days - I can be quite stubborn to the point of sacrificing my life - less so if it will be torture before death.

I actually would consider a false conversion, but as you say, they would eventually find out and kill you anyway.

I think I'd rather die fighting than be captured by these people.

I would try lying ahead of being executed although, I guess I would feign being Christian since I can probably wing enough of that to be semi convincing.

I'd convert on the spot. No questions asked. The best hope of survival, as far as I would be aware, is to convert, do what they say and make it look as convincing as possible. Might die anyway if they found out I was atheist, but i'd convert and kiss their ass like crazy.

I don't think you'd be athiest if you were born in Shia or Shiite country middle east desertville. Since there is a huge geographic component to religion.

Does anybody know what is required to be a Muslim, what you need to believe?

I seem to recall something about 5 pillars or something.

A conversation I had recently with a Muslim lead me to believe as follows as best I can remember, but I don't know if what was expressed was authoritative and I don't and I don't remember everything.

There is one God whom Muslims refer to as Allah. He is one, meaning he has never been a flesh and blood man, taken on a human form. Mohamed is His Prophet, and the final one to come. I was told that because I believe that God is One, and that Jesus was a Prophet too, and because I can take the word of Islamic authorities that Mohamed is the last one simply on the word of the man with whom I was speaking that that this is what those experts say the Koran shows, that I don't have to have actually proved this to myself, that for all intents and purposes I am actually eligible to be a Muslim. I would say that if I understood the conversation correctly, I would not even really have to convert but simply say this is what I believe, which it is. I guess I could be a Christian too, Except I could never grasp the Trinity and virgin birth thingi. Islam just makes a lot more sense in that way. God is the reality that is when the self disappears.

I remember reading that there are Masters, who make God's will their own, Saints who surrender to God's will, and Prophets who can do both. I guess it is could be hard to tell God from the manifestation of God's will, but it's still a human being having the experience, not God Himself.

Would a Christian kill a person if that person worshipped the devil or would such a person only think he was a Christian and actually not be one at all?

sure, I'll probably be as bad a Muslim as I was a Christian though. I'll say whatever they want, I prefer to live.

If they wanted me to call God by the name Allah...I could do that. If they wanted me to be animals like them...I'd rather die.

I wouldn't be in a situation that allowed the "convert or die" scenario to happen. In the event of an ISIS like take over, I'd fight against that, regardless of ideology. They wouldn't get a chance to convert me.

What if you were asleep and they happened to knock your door down and suprise you with a "convert or die" ultimatum?

Some things are simply out of your control -- it's not really about what you'd allow.

I claim to convert, and do my best to put on a front of belief and follow religious laws while attempting to escape their zone of control. In all likelihood I'm eventually called upon to follow one of their laws that is unconscionable, refuse to do so and am executed for heresy.

Fun.

If I was asleep and someone was knocking at my door in the middle of the night, whom I did not expect, why would I not have my gun with me?

That situation is entirely in my control.

I see you wanted to ask questions but didn't want to answer mine.

You have much less control than you think you do. I can only assume that you're either really lucky or relatively young and haven't lived long enough to experience much of life's unexpected adversities.

Convert?!? I'm already of the ONE TRUE RELIGION! I was just pretending to be one of these heathen dogs so I could infiltrate their organization and destroy them from the inside.
Let me give you a list of people I don't like err, heathens and we can go save them together!

I figure two scenarios:

1) Person making demand will kill me either way so whether I convert ro not matters not at all

2) Or person making demand will let me live if I convert.

Given these scenarios converting is the only option that will provide even a chance of living through the ordeal. Living through the ordeal might allow circumstances to change where the threat is removed and the perp can be dealt with.

No idea.

All I know is there isn't anything special about Christians...they're still just as human as anyone else, so it would vary person to person.
