This site has been around for a while. It is great for graphics, but for a .doc that has alot of formatting etc..., well this isn't a great place to turn to.

Although it is free (And always has been) I do not consider it a hot deal at all. Not even close

No Thread Crapping, just letting you know what I know about that site.

I prefer pdf995 (it's adware, or you can buy it for $10) it installs as a printer and as long as you can print something it can be turned into a pdf file regardless of format it is.

Yeah, I think one of the points of the post is that you don't have to purchase Acrobat.

I also use pdf995. It is free to download, and you simply send the document to it like a printer. The ad shows up on screen after you send the document to it. No ads are inserted/added to the pdf's that you make. WORKS GREAT!

while it's not FREE, you can get Wordperfect 2002 and it reads and writes both .doc and .pdf formats, plus about a million others ... plus it is still and all-around better WP program than MSWord (trust me, I have to use that one at work, so I have expereince with it). And you can get it as part of the whole WordPerfect Corel suite fvor $10-$20 on ebay.

just a more convenient and powerful alternative suggestion.

I second that. WP is the best wordprocessing app around. Beats MS Word hands down. And I'm familiar with both programs .

Thanks,

Unlike other people who see it as a way to print to pdf, it has relevant use to me because I don't have word, powerpoint, or any of the MS office programs. While star office, openoffice, and abiword do decent jobs with most plain text, I'd like to see how well this service does, especially since the campus UNIX machines don't all have any of those installed.

Thanks!

I've had some problems with converting docs under OS X. When you do it with the built in writer, it doesn't format right. Use Adobe's Acrobat and it looks right...

Here's a cheap alternative Software 602
Download the free program, then buy the "print pack" for $19.95. Make all the PDF's you want.
And, get a decent office suite.

I agree with Btowner said. I have been doing this freely for awhile now. Just setup a postscript printer on your machine. Install Ghostscript and Ghostview, then the rest is easy. We use this method at work, and it saves us money from purchasing any commercial software.
