Controller Wars: Xbone vs PS4

7 hour battery life is basically a deal breaker for me. Huge omission on Sony's part.

XBOX ONE controller OTOH lasts almost an entire week, if not more.

It doesn't bother me that much, since I can plug it in and play (harking back around a decade, obviously), but it sure does seem lame. The 360 ran on AA for way longer than 7 hours.

Supposedly none of the interactives will be done until after the holidays except at Microsoft stores.

Wth. Nintendo did the same thing when the Wii U came out. At least I was able to play PS4 at a couple of different stores.

7 hours is more than a Nintendo 3DS would typically get. (averaging around 6)

It's a pain in the butt for me to plug it in. I am lazy. I am already comfy in my blankets. My head is getting heavy. I flip of the light in my room and power off the PS4 from the controller, toss the controller onto the nightstand and go immediately to sleep. Getting out of bed where it is 10-20 degrees colder than my comfy blankets to plug in a controller is the last thing on my mind.

On the Xbox I can swap batter packs and won't be on a 3-5 foot tether if my battery dies while gaming. A single charge on an Xbox is like 2 weeks of 2-3 hours a day gaming on top of that. I am having the PS4 controller's battery die in 2 days with almost no gaming. That combined with being unswappable is an issue. On top of it all the PS4 isn't charging on sleep. Meaning that I have to hear it's laptop sounding fan running while I try to sleep.

I hate that my phone does not stay charged for longer too, that's why I always have extra batteries with me.

As I said, the battery life on the DS4 is not a deal breaker, I really like my PS4 and will be keeping it, but it's an annoyance I would rather not have to deal with. My PS4 is very far from my couch, so playing wired is not an option and I would much rather just not have to think about plugging it in every single time I stop playing.

Charging stations are for you lol. I use one for both my controllers. Can have it on the table with both controllers ready to go.

Oh well...everyone has their own needs and such.

I only have one controller. I also don't really have a proper coffee table that is appropriate to hold chargers. Anyway, it's not the end of the world, just annoying. 😛

And if its anything like the xbox controller you will get 2 or 3 charges out of it then your analog sticks will be shot. Ok, slight exaggeration but you get my point, that is the main reason I went with PS3 instead of xbox in the long run... The controllers crapped out to quickly on the xbox.

It has to be the damn bright ass light bar that's really hurting the battery life. I really wish there was a way to turn it off, or at least it be game specific if it has to be on or not.

The crazy thing is that this thread reads just like a cell phone battery life thread. This isn't a deal breaker to me but it's an unnecessary annoyance. I agree the solution is simple, just plug it in when you're done. But I know I won't always remember to do that.

Hopefully they'll find some way to better optimize the battery life. This is one aspect that I really hope gamers don't just accept as ok like we have with our phones.

I hate how theres no usb ports in back, would make it nicer looking for permanent attachment like a charging dock.

I like being able to turn on a console with the controller, so if it's plugged in every time I'm done, then I still have to walk over to it in which case I might as well turn it on the old fashioned way. It's just a convenience factor, plopping down on the couch, grab the controller and you're set...battery life is important just like it is in most every other device. No one really wants to get up, plug in and unplug it each time you're ready to play, guys like me had enough of that back in the 80's. You could call it laziness but so is not churning your own butter, so where does progress end and laziness really begin?

Pretty sure it isn't thought I read that it needs to patched in even though it says that it does. Second day I had it the battery it was at one bar after I got home from work even though I had it in standby with it plugged in the night before.

For the guy talking about cell phone battery life. If your battery on your phone died at 10am after unplugging it at 8 you wouldn't like someone telling you to just plug it in. 2 mediocre gaming sessions isn't long enough. Its an annoyance. Not the end of the world just combining it with not being able to swap batteries really makes its shortfall that more apparent.

How do you like the PowerA charger? It is the only one that looks decent that is in the US. I really wish Sony would have released theirs over here (it is out in EU already wtf?). I'm close to just getting it on ebay for like $45. The only thing I don't really like about the PowerA from looking at the picture is the base seems a bit large.

Yeah turning off the system completely doesn't charge the controller, yet. Sony said iirc they would be adding that feature in a update.

to me the pros/cons are still the same as the ps3/360 pretty much to a T.

the ds4 is MUCH better than the ds3, but the analogs are still in a retarded spot and even though the analogs are spaced further apart and have convex tops, your thumbs can still easily touch in a game like resogun or anything that uses both at the same time. triggers are much better than ds3 though.

x1 controller is virtually identical to the 360 one. i feel the face buttons may be a tad bigger. the dpad is better, but it still is awful. analogs feel similar to me though.

I never seen or known anyone outside of the internet that says that their thumbs hit each other using the DS3 controller. I just grabbed my controller to see, my first 1/3 of my thumb rests on top of the sticks and they wont touch, when I put the middle of my thumb over the center of the stick then they touch. So it sounds like it is the way you are placing your thumbs to start with, which is just odd (imo). I have large hands, so it isn't an issue with size of hands either.

Maybe I have a bad controller with a bad battery it would explain sleep charging issues. But I was talking about at full charge and the phone point was just an example. There is an expectation that Sony and MS fostered with their last consoles of about 15 hours a charge I and most are getting half that. Make matters worse it as an unswappable battery. Usually the excuse for that is you get a bigger battery into a smaller device. This one is bigger then the last controller and lasts half as long.

Its not a deal breaker or worrisome, its just the one hardware design issue I really have with my PS4.

What I wanted was a sturdy charging station that I can easily plop a controller into. The only weird aspect of it is that there's a weird sort of push-based docking aspect. It's sort of like a push-based toggle switch as you push the controller down and it docks in place and starts charging. It isn't hard, but it's odd compared to the PS3 charger where you just kind of put the controller in. I also don't think it's too big.

I've played a lot of Super Stardust HD on the PS3 and Resogun on the PS4, and I haven't ever had my fingers touch. However, I have had some rather bad wear on my hands after playing both of those games for a while. Although, I think the DualShock 3 would hurt my hands more after playing for a while.

Yeah, I'm not too sure what I think about the X1 controller. It's not bad, but it doesn't come across as great. Although, I don't own any fighters (or rather, the only fighter: Injustice) on the PS4, so I can't test it.
