Make two copies: One for you and one for the client. You don't want to get screwed over if he "loses" the contract after the work is done.

You call yourself a contractor, yet you ask a dumb question like this?

I can kinda relate.......sometimes its easier to ask here on the board rather than typing into the Google toolbar that just inches away from this text box in which I could get a whole page of informative links..........

LOL. you're a contractor and you don't know this basic rule??
If you're a Building or trades Contractor and do not have a license (in CA.), anything you "contract for " is null and void and totally unenforceable. Otherwise known as S.O.L. if the client screws you. About the only thing you can hope to collect is your tools from the job site.
I hope you're licensed and insured.

Whoever can train for the fight better, and knock the other person out first.

He can't be a contractor in the construction sense, I hope. I think he might mean he's contracting as an independent worker for a company.

I hope. Otherwise he puts a bad name to my industry...

No, you've got it all wrong. No one signs a contract, but they trust in their honor to keep the agreement in good faith. :D

PTAK!!

Seriously though, i'm not in the USA, nor am i a general contractor. I'm a sub-contractor who just recently moved from doing small residential jobs to larger commercial jobs. This is my first year in the business, so i haven't really had to deal with contracts up until now. Everything went smoothly though - we signed and i got the deposit. Only thing i forgot is putting my tax number under the tax section, but we wrote that in and initialed after.

of course you sign two copies and have the other party sign two copies that way you both have a copy of the biunding agreement.
