This show cost like a hamburger and fries to produce and it kicks Defiances ass.

I took it as the actor/character knowing how cliched it was, but that it was true in that situation.
Perhaps I'm being a bit harsh, but I just find the writing on that show leaves a little to be desired. A couple of times I actually found myself predicting lines before they were said.

The show has so much potential otherwise. Indeed, I'm curious to see the change in dynamics for the police partnership in the next episode.

Remember shows like Continuum and Lost Girl are made in Canada for Canada. The population is 1/10 that of the US. There is no guarantee that a US network will buy it and since the consolidation there are not that many competing networks in the US. Its not like Syfy had to outbid USA network or Bravo, etc since they are all part of the same company. So the shows don't get anywhere near the money a US network puts into a show.

Even when a show like Continuum is popular a network like Syfy doesn't feature it or give it a good time slot. And usually shows aren't even purchased until after they are filmed so the show can't count on that money.

I think they do a great job with the resources they have.

Exactly, its a semi low budget random canadian show... I'm not watching for the writing or acting (both of which are... weak) but I love the story!

I see that you agree with my complaints. Weak acting and writing. Unfortunately, so far it seems one of the weakest actors is Rachel Nichols, even though I still do like her overall.

Well, I'm not sure I agree. The writing in some spots really falls down, but good writing doesn't necessarily have to be super expensive. eg. I think Corner Gas had better writing. Yeah, it's a totally different genre, and therefore takes a totally different type of writing, but nonetheless it was significantly better in a lot of ways. Unpredictable, yet flowed well. While I like the overarching story of Continuum, the basic dialogue of Continuum aims really low IMO, so much so that I found myself accurately predicting the next line from time to time.

Ohhh that was exciting, she finally spilled the beans

I agree the reveal was stupid, but not for those reasons... More like, she has a whole bunch of gadgets that would be impossible with our current technology, so all she had to do was show some of it to Carlos and he would have no choice but to believe it

The whole scene where she first says shes a time traveler, I kept waiting for her to say "Let me show you..." and become invisible or something

Oh well

Agreed. However, their time was cut short.

Either way though, the writing could have set it up better to make it make more sense.

Ok, this is a big spoiler but I am not going to put it in spoiler tags.

Rachel Nichols had the thingy under her eye removed!

That's really good news! I couldn't concentrate on the plot seeing that fucking mole on her eye. She's an actress for crissakes. She should know better.

Same goes to Summer Glau who had hers removed later than sooner. That thing was fugly.

I guess Continuum must be doing well enough. It was renewed for a 3rd season of another 13 episodes.

Great news. Lost Girl also gets another season.

Also a new series, Helix:

Helix is an intense thriller about a team of scientists from the Centers for Disease Control who travel to a high-tech research facility in the Arctic to investigate a possible disease outbreak, only to find themselves pulled into a terrifying life-and-death struggle that holds the key to mankind's salvation or total annihilation.

Also, looks like American actors are going north to do shows. Jon Tenney, Rebecca Romijn

Helix is a SyFy show, IIRC. It's Ron D. Moore's new series (which means there's a good chance it won't be good :|).

D'oh! I thought it sounded familiar. And RDM is a plus in my book.

Nice to hear. I'm also curious what Rachel Nichols gets paid for this show and what the budget is per episode, since Showcase only gets about 400000 or so viewers per episode (which is good for them). IIRC it was up to about $2 million for a Stargate SG-1 episode in the later seasons, and $7 million for their movies.

P.S. Defiance was also renewed it seems. They have a much bigger budget than Continuum, but it appears they didn't spend as much of that on the writers as they should have.

It looks like Nichols has a movie career going. Upcoming is one with Chris Evans(Captain America)

Hey now, I rather liked her in green!

Though you're correct in that they seem to be playing down her looks. In just about anything else similarly recent she looks quite good. I have to assume they're doing it to give her that gruff cop edge.

(I copied the above from the Syfy pace thread so I could answer it here)

All the people that got sent back with Kiera are thriving in their new time. Kellog is getting rich and powerful. Computer hacker from the future is enjoying total control advanced knowledge gives him. Punk rock violence chick likes it that the police don't have the advantage of superior technology and she can kick ass as she likes. Mrs. Daniel Jackson sees the opportunity to achieve her goals she didn't have in the future. Same with auto repairing soldier. Even the other agent that got sent back in time further than Kiera adjusted to her situation and made a new life for herself.

Only Kiera is faced with the fact that each day goes by she is further from her goal of getting back with the future unchanged. She was an upholder of the law now forced to live by criminal means. She was apolitical and just wanted to be a cop to protect her family and now she is thrust into events far beyond anything she ever had to deal with.

Its no wonder Dr. Gaeta decided a little one on one time was needed. Kiera's crappy appearance is also likely a plot device to show she is not doing well and getting worse all the time.

I just thought of it as Scullifying her like in X-Files, and they were also de-emphasizing the cat suit as a plot device. Plus she hates wearing the suit because it's blistering hot in the summer and extremely cold in the winter.

P.S. It amusing watching these shows and recognizing the actors that are so often recycled from other shows shot in Canada: Stargate SG-1, Stargate Universe, Battlestar Galactica, Caprica, Arctic Air, etc. I also just watched Snakes On A Plane and instantly knew it must have been partly shot in Canada, because so many of the actors were from these shows.

I didn't know that about the suit. Too bad its not on HBO. Then she could go nekkid.

Canada is the new home of science fiction.

Continuum is a bit of an anomaly though, as it is funded in Canada for a Canadian channel (hence the low budget), and furthermore is set in Canada as well.

Then again, the helicopter episode must have cost them a pretty penny.

BTW, I just found out that Amanda Tapping will be directing an episode.

It wouldn't surprise me if Michael Shanks made an appearance.
I'd like to see Claudia Black. I think she would liven up the show.

The winner for the best fight tonite goes to Caprica girl. That was great!

The other young girl in this episode is from Arctic Air.
