Think we can lose the spoiler tags...

I think his "mistake" was allowing or helping the corporations get so powerful. Maybe he wants Alec to help Liber8? Kiera's a bit sympathetic to the cause sans murdering.

Oh, woops. Wonder if Americans can go to Showcase's website and stream it online. Region restriction usually bites Canadians.
 
I just finished watching season 2. I'm definitely having issues following the plot now with that ending
