I have a really high metabolism, so in the past I have avoided aerobic exercise to avoid losing any calories.

I managed to go from 110lbs to 165lbs through diet and lifting, and i've decided I want to start jogging. (well, i've already started... I jog 3-4 miles on my off-days)

A half hour of jogging would cost me about 250 calories. Can I offset this by consuming dried fruits and sugar water 15 minutes or so prior to my jog?

Why don't you just eat a banana beforehand and drink some sort of protein shake afterwards to offset it? Sugar water seems pointlessly processed when you can get good some good nutrients in utilizing other sources.

I already eat 2 bananas a day in the form of protein shakes.

is the shake a banana flavored shake? or do you actually put 2 bananas in it? The sugar water is a bad idea IMO. There's no real nutritional value.

What's your goal? To gain weight or maintain weight? I'm just curious.

I have multiple protein shakes a day. I usually put a banana in each one.

Eventually I'd like to hit 170lbs, but for now my goal is to not lose any weight with the addition of jogging into my routine.

Wow 110lbs -> 165 lbs, great work!

I'd suggest simply upping your calorie intake throughout the day rather than trying to offset it exactly right before exercise. It's not like your body says "Oh, this fruit & sugar water, it's for the run. I'll make sure to use this and only this up right now". Just eat more at every meal throughout the day. As a fellow skinny guy, it's hard to do, yes, but necessary...

I should note, though, a lot of running will probably interfere any mass gaining attempts. To quote Hardcore Training:

Limit Aerobic Training ? You will never see a world-class marathon runner with a huge, muscular physique. Muscle is a heavy substance. The body is an intelligent system. If you train for ultra-endurance, your body will do everything in its power to shed excess bodyweight. Remember, the body will specifically adapt to the demands imposed upon it (SAID principle). Throughout my experiment, I removed all distance running. This was a big change for me, as I?ve always been an avid runner. I made this change, as excessive aerobic training will limit mass and strength gaining initiatives.

Since you said you don't mind staying at the weight you are at, and are not trying to gain ATM, I would just play it by ear. If you notice significant decreases in your bodyweight, just scale back the running a little & up the food intake a little. I don't see a point in skipping an exercise activity you enjoy because it might decrease your bodyweight a little. If it makes you feel better, then it's worth it, right?

What he's trying to say is, instead of drinking sugar water, consume some kind of food or shake (carbs + protein) prior to running that will equal to whatever you're burning off. I normally have a banana and a granola bar or oatmeal before my runs. And if you're jogging 3-4 miles, you're burning far more than 250 calories.

Why don't you time one of your protein shakes after your jog? It has been proven in studies that after a jog, you will lose some muscle if you don't take in some sort of protein right after. It would be optimal to stay on track with nutrition and it would also save your muscle. Replace the time you would normally drink that shake with a tuna sandwich or something and you'll be fine. Split the banana and protein shake up. Banana before, protein shake after. I think that will be optimal.
