If you can't get a ps3 stick with the PC. Especially since you have the xbox and ps2, you have the best of both worlds

Te be honest I don't think anything we say will really motivate you to buy a next-gen console.

Just search some of the games on the consoles and really look for the ones you like and hopefully that'll motivate you to get one.
If I were you I'd get a XBOX 360 or a PS3. Here are some points:

Similar performance between the two consoles
PS3 has free online but not as good as XBOX Live (you get what you pay for)
PS3 has a Blu-Ray Player (worth about 900 by itself for your PC)
XBOX 360 has Halo 3 :p

PS3's future line-up (I don't know XBOX 360's - except for Ace Combat 6 which I'm really pissed off about. Used to be a PS series.)

Metal Gear Solid 4
Gran Turismo 5
Resident Evil 5
Unreal Tournament 3 (XBOX 360 also)
SOCOM
Jak and Daxter
Ratchet and Clank
Devil May Cry 4

Stuff like that.
Just a note. Sony might be releasing a 40GB version of the PS3 and it'll be a bit more expensive than the XB0X 360 Premium Package.

I think you should think about the games for each console. That's really the most important thing to think about when choosing between multiple consoles. Then you should think features, graphics, online, connectivity, movie players, stuff like that.

But for me, personally, it's quite different. The tiny little things is what usually makes the difference.

Such as: (talking about the PS3)

-Free online
-Comes with USB cable controller charger
-1080p support (Although XBOX 360 has this now too I think. New HDMI connector.)
-Touch sensitive power and reset buttons! :p
-Slot-loading drive
-Games
-Doesn't blow up by overheating (XBOX 360's are doing better now though)

So yeah, just think about the games and take a good look at each consoles features. I think you'll know by then which one you'll want to get, if at all.

Well of course the PS3 is better than the 360. It's built better and with more powerful/expensive technology. UT3 will come out for PS3 first and probably won't hit 360 for a while after that and it won't run as well (as stated by Epic games developer in interview seen on GS) I am curious to see how much worse it's going to look on the 360. Also, you can still get in on the sonystyle ps3 deal.

Or stick with the PC and Xbox/PS2. That's like 1000 9/10 or higher games to keep you happy/busy.

I just got myself an Xbox 360 and yeah, the startup costs for these new consoles are pretty high. Say you want to play online games with a buddy. You need the console (350), game (60), xbox live (50/yr), extra controller (40). HDMI cable is extra too. If you want to play right now, the xbox is worth it. There's several games out there worth playing... PS3, not so much. In a year or so it'll be interesting.

It comes down to what is your budget, what games do you want to play, who do you want to play them with.

If your friends all have xbox 360s, you can afford one, and you want to play online with them, buying a 360 makes sense. Just be sure to buy the more reliable models that include HDMI port. No HDMI = old and a very high failure rate.

If you don't care about online gaming, or don't like shooters, the 360 is much less compelling to buy.

Right now the main reason to buy a PS3 instead of a 360 is blu-ray and "the future" since there aren't many exclusive games yet.

Check out the games available for the console you want BEFORE you buy the console. I made the mistake of not doing this, see the thread i made.

http://forums.anandtech.com/me...=2101713&enterthread=y

i've heard sports and racing games are really good on consoles vs PC, and co-op is always fun (2+players on the box doesn't always mean co-op!).
If your not interested in any of the above then stick with the PC.

Unreal 3 should be pretty bad ass on the ps3. I think thats gonna own.
Haze looks very good to. GT5 prologue. I think there making a socom for the ps3.
But pc is still good. Hellgate london, crysis, probably some others but im not into rts's.
The 360 has its share of good games. Was thinking about getting one. But im going to
wait to see how Unreal turns out. Pretty sure its gonna own all though. For both pc and ps3.

I'm not a hater, but I don't think a PC gamer would care too much about Halo 3. I think he would be more interested in other stuff like perhaps MSG or something.

money is the reason consoles are so popular.

If you have a good PC, get UT3 for it, unless your interested in connecting a m/kb to a ps3. Unreal absoulutly REQUIRES kb/m. Mod compatibility may also be different on the PS3, as mods may have to be specifically developed to support the PS3. As such, the PC will still stay on top in modding options.

Crysis, nuff said.

Besides the usual Halo 3,
360= Mass Effect, if you loved any Bioware RPG, then this would be your killer app for the 360.

Ace Combat 6 is also coming to the 360 exclusive.

Xbox Live is also second to none in online play and ease.

In the end, it going to come down to whether you can afford to upgrade your PC for the next gen games like UT3 and Crysis. It's going to be more expensive than buying a console, but ultimatly more rewarding. Otherwise, at the moment I'm going to reccomend a 360.

I used to be in the same boat. I switched over from PC to console gaming a year ago when the Wii came out. I got tired of always having to upgrade my PC (heck, a video card costs more than my console) and then still not having some gmaes work.

My big concern is that my favorite games are PC based, RTS/strategy/simulation (think Rome:Total War) types which dont do to well on the consoles. Hopefully that'll change soon, I dont really have plans to go back to pc gaming at any time.

Wait...you love PC gaming. You probably don't mind dropping a good bit of cash on a PC every couple years for upgrades.

Yet, you don't want to spend the money on consoles?

If you're into PC gaming, and have a good PC, you might as well just get a PS3. A good chunk of 360 games are on or come out for the PC. PS3 games are generally only on PS3 (aside from multiplatform games, etc).

Besides, I wouldn't drop $350 on a system that has yet to show me it's a quality system (*cough*RROD/360*cough*).

My main obstacle is that my Sony Trinitron 27" SDTV is not all that great for gaming. I have an xbox 1, but I have mainly used it as a DVD player for the past couple of years. I am waiting waiting for a reasonably priced LED backlit LCD HDTV, but those are not going to materialize anytime soon.

So, I am now just waiting for my cable company to offer more channels in 720P / 1080i before I purchase a new television. I cant really justify paying the extra cash (for the TV or Comcast's HD package) when the bulk of channels that I Tivo are only broadcast in SD (no HD flavors available yet). My TiVo is also a 2nd gen, so I would have to upgrade it if I was to go HD.... I cant watch live TV anymore.

I actually find myself spending far more time watching TV than gaming these days in my spare time since I acquired a TIVO. If any of you guys do not own a DVR, I suggest you pick one up and I can recommend some great TV shows that are on right now. TV seems to be better at the moment than gaming, at least for my story driven RPG tastes (only thing that looks hopeful seems to be Dragon Age, but The Witcher might luck out). People seem to drool over Bioshock, but the people that I have talked to say that the story / character development does not come close to PlaneScape: Torment.

What I would really like would be for my future console maker to sell a keyboard / mouse combo and bundle a good controller emulator with it, so I could easily map the controls to the keyboard and mouse for legacy games. A DVI port on it would be nice as well.

I plan on getting into consoles again sometime in the next couple of years, once my cable company comes through for me and I splurge for the HD Tivo, HDTV, and HD cable package. Anyway, my gaming time overall for the near future is bleak, for I have to take a professor that is reputed to be the most challenging professor at my university next semester.

Xbox360 can do 1080p through component as well.

You are truly misinformed and obviously a sony fanbot. Sony fanboys aren't even good enough to be called fanboys hence the name fanbot.

Now the PS3...you may think that it's some magical expensive hardware, but did you know that people buying the cheap version of the console DID NOT get the Emotion Engine? That means their games are dumbed down...that's right Sony skimped out in the hardware dept. UT3 is scheduled for Feb 2008 and the biggest benefit for 360 gamers playing this game is XboxLive which kicks the crap out of Sony's lame network. It won't look worse, the game uses the same engine that Bioshock and Gears of War used (both Xbox360 games). They ran fine didn't they? Thought so.

Calm down man. I'm not trying to get him to buy one over the other. I just know more facts about the PS3 because I'm thinking of getting one myself. That's great if all that shit is XBOX 360.

Wait...can't spend the cash on a console? Seriously. I look at people's rigs on this forum and its all "Intel Pentium Uber Xtreme 5 Jiggawatts Overclocked & Watercooled with 8GB RAM, 2TB hard drive space, 1000000x DVD burner, etc".

Do you *really* need that much sh!t to run Microsoft Excel/Word? No, but you can justify spending all that to play your games at an extra 10fps than the next guy?

Simply put, regardless of PC vs console, gaming is expensive. Period. Initial investment, controllers, games, hours of your life wasted playing them, online connectivity, patches, etc. It's not cheap. Don't ask for an excuse to "buy a console" because it's "a lot of cash". It boggles my mind sometimes how people need justification or convincing.
