I think the poll needs more options. I own a PS2 but don't own a PS3. I own a 360 but didn't own a xbox. I own a N64.

I own every console ever made except for PS3. And I still have every one of them. :)

Even Jaguar, Neo Geo, Turbo Graphix, Sega CD, Saturn,, Dream Cast? Damn There are a lot of systems that flopped.

I didn't even think about adding in the hand helds.
Virtual Boy, Nokia whatever they called it.

Yep. All of the above mentioned. Still have my 200 buck-a-pop book sized Neo Geo carts. I wasted sooooo much money on a lot of these systems. Paid over 700 bucks for my 3DO.

NES, SNES, PS2, Xbox, Xbox 360

I have no loyalties... I usually buy a console when a specific game comes out that I MUST HAVE. PS3 and later Nintendo iterations never released "that game". For the record, Halo was never "that game", either. For Xbox, it was 2k5 football and Forza. For 360, it was Gears, Forza 2, and COD4.

NES -> SNES -> PSx -> Wii -> Xbox

No loyalties here. The maker of the console doesn't matter to me, the console's features and games do.

Atari 2600 -> NES -> SNES -> Sega Genesis -> N64 -> Playstation -> Playstation 2 -> Playstation 3

The Xbox, on the whole, was a disappointing console. The PS2 was the clear winner of that generation. You'll be hard pressed to find someone who did NOT own a PS2 and bought any of the modern systems.

I haven't bought a Wii yet only because I can't see the value. I'll buy one when it has a better library of games.

I own a PS3, but I have yet to buy a 360. I got the PS3 for MGS4 + Resistance + as a Blu-Ray Player. As for the 360, I'm hoping the Falcon models have better reliability, but it's hard to determine the failure rate only 6 months after release. I'll buy the Premium if the price gets dropped to $300 retail or if the failure rate is officially below 5% (I won't buy a used system for this reason). The Arcade is crippled and The Elite is overpriced.

I had a Dreamcast, and now I currently have a PS3 and Wii. Before my current consoles, and even when I had the Dreamcast, I was more of a PC gamer.

Just got an Xbox 360 today. Actually, my console buying this generation has so far mirrored that of last generation. First one I picked up was a GameCube, which had a few good multiplayer party games, but I got bored with it quick. I sold it and bought an Xbox. This time, I am no longer poor and in college so I just bought a 360 to complement my Wii, but the same thing happened as last time - got bored with the Wii and got a 360 to supplement.

Last time, I ended up eventually selling the Xbox to a friend and getting a PS2, which I still own. Who knows? Maybe eventually I'll replace my 360 with a PS3. But if it gets to that point, I'll probably just wise up, realize that Sony's consoles agree with me the best, and go straight to the PS4.

For me, the question isn't so much brand loyalty as brand focus. I own several generations of Nintendo consoles because they had a number of platforming/adventure titles which I enjoyed. I bought a PS2 because of the unrivalled depth of RPG titles (a little too deep, since I probably have at least a half dozen unfinished), and found a few other action/platform franchises to supplement my library.

I haven't gotten either generation of XBox yet because the XBox mission has been largely geared toward head-to-head online FPS and racing gaming (look, the X in the name means X-treeeem!), although I will probably pull the trigger on XBox 360 at some point for such niceties as Assassin's Creed, Bioshock, and Mass Effect. PS3 simply isn't compelling enough for me yet library-wise, since its flagship franchises (Gran Turismo, Metal Gear Solid) don't appeal to me that much; right now, the biggest draw for me on the PS3 is Ratchet and Clank -- although perhaps a new Final Fantasy might.
