I don't like brand loyalty. It's a sham companies try to force on people for sales. Going back as far as I can remember . . .

Atari - don't remember which one, but it was given to me with a bunch of games and later broke.

NES - When it was $100. Played it at a friends house. Loved it.

SNES - When it was $100. I went against my friend on this one; he had a Genesis. I don't remember why. Maybe it was because I loved Mario and thought it was a better console because of it.

Genesis 2nd Gen - Got it because I saved my apartment building from a lot of water damage. I think it was $130 bucks at the time. I asked for it.

GameGear - it was either before or after the Genesis. Got it because it was protable and had COLOR. Because of that I thought it was better, but I figured out why people bought the Gameboy so much - you could play it in the light.

Sega CD 2nd Gen - I think one of my friends had it first and then I joined him. Some games were cool.

N64 - PSX was too expensive for my parents. Then when I heard about the N64 and its graphics looked so amazing that I had to get it. Because there was a shortage, my mom got it for me at a special price of $260, $60 over retail.

PSX - I think I enjoyed the PSX a lot more than the N64. But there are some memorable games on it of course. I think I got this around 1998, before FF8 came out.

Gameboy Color - Release date (I think).

Gameboy Advance - Release date.

Dreamcast - Around 2001. I was disappointed with what I heard and read about the PS2. I bought a Dreamcast and it was amazing.

3DO - Borrowed from my friend to try it out. It's sort of like Sega CD. He's never wanted it back. I keep it in my closet.

XBOX - Dreamcast became unsupported, so because I didn't want the PS2, I bought an XBOX 3 days after it debuted. It broke down on my about a year and a half later. Couldn't read any discs.

Gamecube - Bought the gamecube for the Resident evil remake. I played some good games on this system, but ditched it when I decided to go PC only.

PC - I started gaming on PCs in October of 2000. Eventually shifted completely to PC Gaming after the crap I delt with on the XBOX. Frustrated with the lack of FPS and the cost of hardware, I played my last PC Gam in early 2008, Bioshock.

DS - Sometimes in between the PC Gaming, the DS released and I bought it to try and fill my time in between FPSs on the PC. I didn't like the DS, I thought the touch screen was a gimmick and there were no games that appealed to me. I sold it.

PS2 - I think I bought it to fill my time in between FPSs on the PC, but I ignored it for the PC. For some reason, online gaming was easier, or more fun.

DS lite - Later on, there was a game that I was itching to play. I ended up being dissatisfied again with the DS lite afterwards and sold it.

XBOX 360 - Deciding to stopped PC gaming, I bought an XBOX 360 and focus on it. I had fun, and then it broke with the RROD. After it broke, I realized that I had spent about $540 on games and only enjoyed $180 worth. I sold it because of shoddy hardware and I was also looking for a cheaper way to game.

PSP - Cheaper gaming. Games were $20 cheaper and it was the only alternative since the DS sucked.

PSP 2000 - Unsatisfied with the original PSP, I bought this one when I was released. I realized later that I had many books I wanted to read, but would rather play the PSP than read, so I discovered the ultimate cheap gaming, Gamefly, and decided to sell the PSP for a real gaming console.

PS3 - The only alternative for me. I don't like the games on Nintendo consoles. I don't like the XBOX 360 because it breaks often. I don't like Sony, but I don't have any other choice; not only that, but it has a Blu-Ray drive, which is a plus since I enjoy watching HD movies.

I've had all 3 of the last gen consoles, and I've played the PS3 enough to know its ups and downs.

In chronological order.

Atari, NES, SNES, PS 1, PS 2, Xbox, Xbox 360, Wii.
I basically stopped playing each console with the next ones purchase except for the 360 and Wii. I would say I play the 360 85% of the time and the Wii 15%.

Have had every Nintendo console to date, even the Virtual Boy. Have the Wii. Its not brand loyalty really, I guess Im a sheep and keep buying the same games over and over again. Seeing how they keep putting out the same game, with every new console. Currenlty we have a DS, Gamecube, and Wii in our house.

I have owned all three Playstations, and now a PSP too. So I guess thats 4 in total. Just have the PS3 and PSP now. I have a 60gig, so no need for a PS2.

Didnt own a Xbox, and dont own a 360. It has nothing to do with loyalty, I would buy one if I wasnt being deployed in a month, and if they could fix the RRoD problems. When I come back, hopefully the new version will be out shortly afterwards.

Owned every Sega console I believe as well. Even own (still have it) a 3DO, and Jaguar. And a Atari 2600.

The chart needs fixed.
The options are:
1. I own a PS3 and I owned a PS2.
2. I own a PS3 and I did not own a PS2.
3. I own a PS3 and I do not own a PS3.

Option 3 really doesn't make sense for any console. The third option should be I own a PS2 and I do not own a PS3.

Owned a PS2 -> Own a PS3

Owned an Xbox -> Own a 360

Owned a Gamecube -> Owned a Wii (sold it)

With the previous generation I definitely preferred the Xbox over the PS2 and the Gamecube didn't thrill me, but now I would say things are pretty equal between the two - 360 is a bit better for gaming but PS3 is way better for movies. Wii was fun for a month or so but then I sold it, there's just not enough time to play 3 systems + PC and not enough money to buy games for 4 platforms.

I have owned a lot of systems, some of them I bought / received late in their lifespan.

Nintendo:
NES > SNES > N64 > Gamecube All near the beginning of their lifetime
Gameboy original > Gameboy Pocket > Gameboy Color > Gameboy Advance > DS

Microsoft:
XBOX: got for free from a friend and modded it
XBOX 360: Picked up about a year after release

Sega:
Genesis: Picked up mid lifespan
Sega CD: Got for free from a friend
Dreamcast: Picked it up for $20

Sony:
PS1: Owned for like a week and sold it
PS2: Just bought it like 3 weeks ago used

Also a mid-high range PC for many years.

Atari 2600 -> Atari 800
... long time with just gaming PCs...
PS2 -> PS3.

I've only had the PS2 for a year longer than the PS3, and have no real brand loyalty. I bought the PS3 as a blu-ray player first, "next-gen" console second, with PS2 BC as a bonus since I (still) have a tall stack of JRPGs to work through.

I'll be buying a 360 once Jasper is out, and will probably upgrade my April 2006 gaming PC some time in the next 6-12 months. I'll probably get a Wii too, but so far there aren't any games for it that I "must" play now. When I run out of PC, PS2, PS3, and 360 games I'll add one to the collection.

Atari 2600
Atari 7800
NES
Gameboy
SNES
Dreamcast
XBox
Playstation
Gamecube
N64
Wii
DS Lite

The only consoles I have right now are Nintendo ones. I still have a N64, 2 Gamecubes, a DS Lite, and the Wii. One of the Gamecubes and the N64 are in storage right now. Out of all the past consoles I've had the only two I miss are the SNES and the Dreamcast. I wouldn't mind having those back.

I am planning to buy a PS3 and possibly a 360 sometime later this year.

Atari 2600 - still own
NES - still own
Genesis - still own, if only to bust out Sports Talk Baseball every spring and continue my 16 year winning streak against my dad
SNES - would still own, but it broke. Pour a little :beer: out for the SNES.
Playstation - traded for...
Launch Playstation 2 - quit reading discs after 6 years
XBox 360 - owned not quite a year, sold last summer
Slim Playstation 2 - got it as a cheap placeholder since I still had most of my old games
Playstation 3 - on its merry way to being delivered to my home right now

So I guess I've been somewhat biased towards Sony, but not blindly loyal. I didn't get a PS3 at launch because I thought they were too pricey and I didn't like the game library or lack of Dualshock. I tried the 360 and enjoyed it until the reliability issues started popping up and I began getting constant DREs. Now that the PS3 has had time to mature a little the problems I had with it are starting to get resolved, plus Bluray has become dominant. Weighing pros/cons the PS3 is my choice. Not knocking the 360 or people that prefer it, it has a ton of good games and I enjoyed playing it, really liked the controllers and Live, but it's just not my choice if I can only afford one system.

Hmmm, where to start:

NES --> Super NES --> N64 --> Gamecube
Sega Master System --> Genesis/Game Gear
PS1 --> PS2 --> PS3
Xbox 360

I may get a Wii just so I have some games that the gf can play along with. Don't really want one for myself.

Always played PC. Then I bought the original Playstation in 96. Kept playing both PS and PC.
Bought an XBox in 2004 (?) and kept playing Xbox and PC.
A couple years ago I went to 360 only, no more PC playing.

My choice of gaming hardware, including consoles, never had anything to do with loyalty.
I picked what seemed best at the time, and I picked the consoles based on what I wanted to play.

Even Jaguar, Neo Geo, Turbo Graphix, Sega CD, Saturn,, Dream Cast? Damn There are a lot of systems that flopped.

I didn't even think about adding in the hand helds.
Virtual Boy, Nokia whatever they called it.

I do not have any loyalty towards any console manufacturer. I have purchased (or have been given) consoles from all major manufacturers.

(Not in any order)
Nintendo:
NES->SNES->GameCube (for about two weeks, there's a story behind it)
Gameboy (and Pocket)->Gameboy Color->Gameboy Advance (and SP)->Nintendo DS (and DS Lite)

Sega:
Sega Genesis->Sega Saturn
Sega Game Gear

Sony:
Playstation 1-Playstation 2->Playstation 3

Microsoft:
Xbox

Always have been more of a PC Gamer, with that said the first platform I played on was the NES. Ordered the XBOX 360 GTA4 package from amazon. Will be owning a console again after nearly a decade :shocked:

i woulda bought an xbox 360. but disgusted by the negative reviews about the rrod and noisy dvd drive. thought they would fixed it by the time the black one comes out but nope, still noisy and still the occasional rrod from what u guys are saying.
though ps3 didnt have much of the games, i knew sooner or later they would come out.
