are you playing hardcore mode by any chance? It certainly doesn't do this for me, ever.
 
imo...auto aim sucks. If there's two people, I will try to aim at one person and the damn auto aim just throws me off. I think it's something that was added recently too. I don't remember the auto aim from when I first started playing mw2
 
I suck so bad at console FPSs that I've never even noticed auto aim. It's all a blur to me, a fun chaotic blur.
I also wear a safety helmet though.

I've noticed it on both regular and hardcore modes, at least in MW2. But, I tap the ADS button and shoot rather than hold it most of the time. There is a "targeting system" built in but it isn't supposed to work in multi player.
