I just graduated from college last month with a bachelors degree in accounting and have been thinking that maybe teaching would be a good career for me. Would it be hard for a non education major to get a teaching job. I am in Florida if that helps answer the question.

Thanks,

Tri

Do you really want to teach? You'd need extreme patience...

What grades were you thinking? Grade school/highschool/(college?)

I was thinking either grade school or high school. To teach college I think you need a masters degree.

Yes they taught us that making money is a good thing :) I just think it might be more fun to teach than crunch numbers all day.

I think most (if not all) state require a license. I have a bachelor's and I still need a license to be a teacher.

I know a few friends that are teacher and they love what they do....but you must be dedicated and love it...and be able to pound your head on the chalk board when your student can't get the concept of doing simple math. ehehhe example -7+3=? they have no clue. eheh

Most states have provisions for people without certification to teach in their major area on an emergency or provisional certificate if there is a shortage of people certified in that particular area. Usually you are required to sign an agreement stating that you will return to school and take a certain number of hours of education courses toward teaching certification each year with a requirement that you complete the certification within a certain amount of time. This is necessary to renew your contract each year. I don't know Florida's requirements specifically, but they should be on the Florida State Department of Education website.

I have been teaching for 26 years now and would be glad to answer any questions about the teaching profession in general as best as I can.
