The difficulty lies in coordinating the guild to do precise actions and counting on people not to screw up.
The coordination is difficult, especially when you consider how many of the raiding guilds are full of participants like the OP. However, the knock against WOW is based on the second half of your statement. Some of the competitors require not just basic competence and organization to succeed but a much higher degree of skill as well. That is also partly why they are less popular though.

Sarcasm?

Anyways, I played a Warlock for over 3 years and spent some time in the top 2 Alliance guilds on my server.

I went through the process of Kael (the most fun fight in all of WoW to me) and Vashj twice. In between the top 2 guilds I was in, I was a GM for over 6 months (after someone stepped down) and the third raid leader when we were pushing through Black Temple. I got our guild up to Illidan and then *poof* my tanks got bored and did not feel like logging on or we would have downed him before 2.4 (I think this was the patch that ruined raiding).

I understand WoW in game politics and was trying to get more info out of the OP as it would be needed to get more answers from people.
As a member of a guild and GM I was laid back and relaxed doing everything except raiding. I had this thing about wasting 24 other people's time because someone would not pay attention. Was I the best Warlock when I played? Nope, but far from being the worst.

You sound like one of those people that leroy jenkins screwed over hahaha leeeerrrroooyyy jeeenkkiiiiinsssssss

Look at all these nerds...ugh...pitiful that anyone takes a game more seriously than their actual life.

Guys, I'm sorry if WoW is your life's greatest achievement but the bottom line is I can do whatever the hell I want in the game and if I want to make a guild to get this axe then I will. if I could do it on a Hunter I would just to rub it in your pathetic faces. HAH

Acquiring this axe is contingent on putting in lots of time, but that's where I have my cousin come in and play my char in raids when I'm busy. :D

So if anyone NON-loser is interested in raiding in my awesome new guild just PM me. If WoW is your life, don't talk to me or post in my thread.

I'm seriously glad I got out of this game. End game sounds boring as hell. Raiding for loot over and over just for epenis++ doesn't sound like my kind of fun. But if you guys enjoy it, good for you. It's definitely a very cheap way to entertain yourself for 100+ hours per month.

I'm trolling.

Yup, you are. I laughed though, I would give this troll attempt a 5/10, you buckled a little quick in admitting you were trolling and could have strung it out for a few more pages. You did get some reaction out of some WoW players though, so I gave you points on that.

High end raiding is more about finding a guild you like and hanging out with them. It allows people an outlet to be social for people that may not want to go out to bars and have to deal with drunken idiots and have fun online. If I go to the bar and go drinking with my friends, I have to worry about running into people trying to disrupt my night and it costs a lot of money, not to mention for those with wife and kids they may not want to go out all the time to be social with other people.

The majority of high end guild players I have played with back in my raiding days simply raided to hang out online with people and have fun. It ends up being closer to an IRC chat room with graphics than a serious RPG experience.

EricMartello's attempt at classic trolling technique:

* Pick a subject where he thinks he'll gain attention from a community (in this case WoW).
* Create a new thread instead of use the existing thread, in order to bait more people.
* Start off with something ridiculous as the assumption, requesting help from a team of people to accomplish the goal.
* Follow up with saying when he's done with the goal he'll abandon the project.
* Make fun of anybody who points out the flaws in his plan and laugh at the responses.

You can pretty much use a similar tactic for almost anything. It's like going to a Corvette forum, saying you want to take a Corvette and have a team of Corvette enthusiasts to help him build his car, then when it's done use it in a demolition derby, then laugh at people in the Corvette forum who say he's a jackass calling them all dumb grease monkeys.

Fortunately for AT, our forum goers are used to trolling techniques such as these are we're exposed to them on a daily basis, plus the troll attempt was pretty weak and EricMartello really didn't build up even a semi-plausible scenario before initiating the troll attempt.

My rep with ashen verdict is friendly...I'm going to be raiding soon with existing guilds. Shadowmourne shall be mine, and once again I will be the most powerful warrior on the realm. :)
